The best movie of the year so far. It’s classic Nathan Fielder and yet it feels bigger than anything he has ever done. The level of access he has to Holmes’s life is insane. At times it made me forget I was watching a documentary. It’s an evolution of documentary filmmaking. The movie is paced very well. It makes you feel uncomfortable from the beginning and does not let go until the end. Pairing Fielder with Oppenheim was a match made in heaven. Fielder always explored different concepts in interesting, mind bending, and meta ways, but the visuals and atmosphere weren’t anything special. Oppenheim’s documentaries always had immersive atmospheres and impressive visuals, but the subjects weren’t anything to write home about. Combining the two makes for the perfect filmmaking duo, and I hope they become permanent partners. Going back to Oppenheim, his visuals in this movie are the best I’ve seen in any documentary. It straight up feels like you’re watching a narrative feature because of how perfectly framed and lit every shot is. There’s been discussion about this winning best picture and I am in complete support of it. Even if it doesn’t though, there is no doubt that this is THE movie of the year. Holmes has replaced Nikki as the scariest horror villain of this year.

The original slasher is better than any other I’ve seen in the genre because it relies on suspense and terror rather than gore and jump-scares. It also isn’t lazily made like other slasher movies, it’s very sophisticated and passionate.

I wouldn’t say this movie is scary, but it’s definitely stressful and depressing to see these characters gradually abandon all hope and lose their minds. What makes it more effective is that they are portrayed with an incredible amount of realism by the actors. The found footage presentation adds an extra layer of realism as well, and it gives the visuals a cozy yet creepy look.

This season is a noticeable improvement. Drama surrounding BoJack is now the focus of nearly every episode. It explores him in ways that make for fantastic drama, dealing with dark subject matter like trauma, grooming, suicide, sexual assault, self-hatred, substance abuse, etc. The second to last episode is the best episode of the show so far because it fully focuses on him. I still don’t like the other characters and the comedy is hit or miss, but I think this season is a step in the right direction.

Some of this season is an interesting character study of a narcissist desperately trying to become a good person. The majority of it is an absurdist comedy. The comedy is hit or miss for me, sometimes it’s witty but other times it’s obnoxious. I wish this season fully focused on BoJack because he’s a genuinely interesting character who makes for great drama. I couldn’t care less about his roommate, the dog, or the cat.

The majority of this movie feels lighthearted. The crimes depicted are horrific but the movie makes you forget about them with the charming characters and sunny atmosphere. It isn’t until the ending when the darkness hits you like a freight train. You have been deceived throughout the entire experience, just like the main character. That’s what I think the main point of this movie is. Evil in this world mostly appears in mundane forms. Because of this people often don’t realize the dangers of something evil until it’s too late.

The weakest season but still very strong. Leans harder into film parody than previous seasons, which isn’t bad but I prefer the simpler plots. The finale is by far the best in the season. Brendon realizing that he only makes movies out of habit and then accidentally destroying his camera is the perfect ending for his character. It’s not a traditional, Hollywood conclusion but it works because it’s honest. Every episode starts and ends in a weird place. The series itself starts and ends in a weird place. The characters subtlety go through arcs that start and end in weird places. It’s unsatisfying but it’s realistic and honest. A Trojan horse of a cartoon.

Truman Capote’s brilliant writing is on full display in this movie. The way he develops the characters and the house keeps you guessing throughout the entire movie. He gives the audience the perfect amount of information every scene. His decision to keep the possessions ambiguous makes the story more interesting than if it was played straight. Jack Clayton’s direction is decades ahead. It reminds me more of modern horror than classic. It plays with psychological dread, the uncanny valley, unnerving sound design, and anxious framing in ways that stand out among other early 60’s horror movies. I was surprised at how good this movie was, the posters and description made it look generic.

This movie is unmarketable. I feel sorry for the advertisers who had to make trailers for it. It’s not their fault that they set poor expectations for critics and audiences. People went into this movie thinking it would be a comedy and they ended up with whatever this movie was. It’s unsurprising that it’s so divisive. I’m glad that it was made because it does not work as a Hollywood movie whatsoever. It’s incredible that it exists. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Seth MacFarlane can be funny when he actually tries and doesn’t just hand the writing job over to someone else. Ted is a very funny movie overall with a great concept. The Peacock show is better because it’s entirely shenanigans.

This movie does a great job at capturing the look of mid 2000’s television. The fuzzy audio, the grainy image, the heavily saturated colors, etc. It doesn’t just stop at the mid 2000’s though. At times the movie feels like a noir. Sometimes it feels like a 70’s style thriller. Sometimes it feels like a straight up horror movie. It’s diverse yet consistent. Lance Oppenheim is a great director and he knocked it out of the park with this movie. This movie’s biggest weakness is the script. It was a fairly predictable thriller plot and it didn’t feel like it was saying much outside of the obvious. With a different director this movie probably would have been boring, but Oppenheim saves it.

Very boring. It tries to be a powerful epic but the immature writing leaves it as a standard dumb action flick. The movie is horribly paced, and at the end it randomly becomes a Robin Hood origin story. Andrew Garfield does blackface with some dirt, puts on a hood and suddenly there is a time skip to when he’s Robin Hood. It has decent visuals I suppose.

A landmark album for not just ambient music but music production. Brian Eno does not concern himself with writing complicated songs but rather ones that touch on emotions that cannot be described using beautiful chord progressions and sonically rich textures. The Big Ship sounds like flying to heaven and Through Dark Trees sounds like complete despair. My biggest complaint is that I wish the whole album didn’t have lyrics, songs like St. Elmo’s Fire break the simple yet beautiful vibe of the album.

It was depressing when this got shelved three years ago and I’m glad it finally got distributed. This movie’s mere existence is a good thing. The actual movie itself is fine. It has a great concept and a ton of funny moments that are held back by mediocre direction. It feels like it could’ve been made by anyone. I also wish the animation wasn’t 3D. It was 2D for some characters (Bugs Bunny, Porky) but Wiley, the granny, Tweety, etc. look off. There’s also a lot of inaccuracies with the legal process, which isn’t really a problem with the movie itself but more of a missed opportunity. It would’ve been more funny if this movie was a realistic legal drama that had Looney Tunes characters in it. Glad this movie came out but it’s kind of disappointing given how hyped it was. They also played “I Fought The Law” at the end when they should’ve played “Roadrunner.”

Stanley Kubrick’s take on period dramas is much more engaging than other movies from the genre. Like most of his other movies it is executed with perfection. The pacing, the atmosphere, the classical and folk music, the acting, and the painting-like shots grip you all the way through. It’s three hours long but it never feels boring because it’s either hypnotic or intense. My only issues are that some of the war scenes drag on too long for me, and occasionally the music and narration feel unnecessary. Not as good as The Shining or 2001 but still a great time that shows even the most boring genres of movies can be interesting under the right director.

You can hear the influence this had on Nirvana on almost every track. The dark and abstract lyrics, the unique chord progressions and time signatures, the out of tune vocals and distorted guitars, the “quiet-loud-quiet” structures, this album paved the way for not just Nirvana but alternative rock as a whole. “Where Is My Mind?” and “Gigantic” are catchy melodically, but other songs like “River Euphrates” and “Break My Body” are catchy structurally and sonically. I much prefer the first half of this album to the second half, although that might change after a few re-listens. Good album that I’d say I appreciate more than I like.

This review contains spoilers.
Not quite the masterpiece I thought it was when I first saw it at Keith’s, but I still really enjoy it. Zero budget, a few castles, and a vision. It’s basically a bunch of British comedy skits loosely tied together with the plot of searching for the Holy Grail. It does not care about telling a good story in the slightest, it’s entirely focused on jokes. The jokes often have long build ups but they usually pay off. Even when a joke isn’t funny I can still appreciate it because of how silly and careless it feels. Nothing on screen looks convincing but that honestly enhances the comedy, it’s way funnier to have the Black Knight leak obviously fake blood as opposed to realistic blood. The shots in this movie look pretty good, nothing amazing but it shows an amount of care that many comedy movies lack. The music is also very good, which again just shows care put into this movie. The scene where the knights saves the prince is an all-timer.

There are some aspects of the direction I can appreciate but this movie’s plot and characters were just boring. It’s supposed to be tense and trippy but it fails at this due to the almost non-existent atmosphere. I was never surprised or impressed by this movie’s attempts at being weird, it just felt standard and derivative for the most part. I was taken out of the story many times due to how sloppy the filmmaking was. The editing was sloppy, the effects were unconvincing, the shots were bland and uninteresting, and the acting was inconsistent. This movie’s characters felt very poorly written, they constantly changed in ways that didn’t feel natural or earned. It didn’t feel like they were inconsistent because of an intentional creative choice but rather because the writing, direction, and acting for them was poorly done. I’m all for movies having weird approaches for characterization, but not in ways that feel sloppy and lazy. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a good example of how to break traditional characterization in a way that feels thematically appropriate and interesting. In this movie it mostly feels unintentional. There were some parts of the movie where I laughed out loud because of how poorly written the dialogue was, it has zero subtlety despite its constant insistence otherwise. The only thing about this movie that wasn’t mediocre or bad was the musical score. It was fairly unique for a western.

An absolutely perfect movie that gets better every time I watch it. Everything makes complete logical sense, there are zero plot conveniences, every scene either furthers the plot or develops the characters, it never manipulates the viewer using a phony soundtrack or overly stylized filmmaking, every decision each character makes is natural and logical, the sound design perfectly recreates the sounds of the environment, the set design is immersive and convincing, the acting is convincing, the dialogue is completely natural yet witty, and the plot is told in a matter of fact way that never feels exaggerated or over-the-top. I adore the editing, the murder scene is a strong contender for the best instance of editing in a movie. Yet the editing never feels manipulative or excessive, it’s very subtle. In general this movie is the textbook example of how to do more with less. It’s about as perfect as a movie can get, it’s hard to find any objective issues with it outside of some continuity problems.

Rewatching The Simpsons has made me realize that it’s superior to South Park. South Park is more consistent and more “laugh out loud” funny, but it simply can’t beat the sharp satire and witty humor of The Simpsons. This season in particular has writing in it that I’m not afraid to call genius, which makes sense since it has a writing team of Ivy League graduates like Al Jean and Conan O’Brien. Plenty of episodes are filled to the brim with screwball comedy like Homer At Bat, Black Widower, Separate Vocations, Radio Bart, Flaming Moe’s, etc. But the show also isn’t afraid to have character focused episodes and social commentary. Lisa has to come to terms with the corrupt U.S. government and the burden of her intelligence, Krusty is revealed to be Jewish with a disappointed Rabbi father, Homer faces challenges with his marriage and his fatherhood, Marge suffers a mental breakdown, and Bart faces the harshness of his coming of age. The show manages to tackle these topics all while not feeling pretentious and having time for goofy, lowbrow humor. One of the best seasons of the show.

A movie about a holocaust survivor directed by a holocaust survivor. As you can expect from that, it immerses you completely. It’s quiet and depressing, yet the amazing sound design, acting, effects, and sets create a living world. It doesn’t have sweeping and epic direction that persuades you how to feel. Instead the movie is very observational. It does not use narration, it sparingly uses music, and the shots have minimal style. It simply shows the events of the story in a matter-of-fact approach, with the viewer left to interpret it. It doesn’t follow a conventional plot with character arcs and emotional payoffs. Instead it follows an episodic, repetitive, and unpredictable plot that faithfully tells the story of Wladyslaw Szpilman. The plot is often unsatisfying and slow, but it was the reality of what he had to deal with. A nearly perfect movie that was unfortunately made by Polanski.

So I listened to it again and tried to ignore the movie and only focus on the music, and it was better than I gave it credit for. I’m honestly not a big fan of cool funk/soul music, I’ve always found it to be boring and at times cheesy. I can appreciate artists like Kool & The Gang because they lean more into pop/disco, but with Curtis Mayfield I’ve always found him boring. This is one of the most critically acclaimed soundtracks ever and one of the most beloved soul albums, yet it still didn’t win me over completely. I really like the song Freddy’s Dead and overall the album has great production, but I’m just not a fan of the genre.

No actors, no cgi, no perfectly planned story with a message, no manipulative score, no sugar coating or exaggeration, just real veteran interviews and beautifully restored footage. The way the interviews and footage are edited is fantastic and seamless. The sound design is immersive and blends perfectly with the footage. My only problem is that sometimes they have actors voice over silent footage of people talking. I would’ve preferred if they’d only added sound effects. Nothing like the movies Jackson made prior to this, but a welcome addition to his filmography nonetheless.

The pig learns in order to get attention from her husband she has to strip. The porcupine learns to write pop music in order to appeal to the masses. The gorilla learns to chase for approval from his criminal father. The character design sucks, the soundtrack is just a top 40 hits playlist on shuffle, the jokes are lazy, the animation is generic and lazy, and it wastes talented actors. It’s portrayal of autism is a tad bit outdated, but for 1988 it was ground breaking, earning the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The screenplay is both incredibly intelligent but also very emotional. I found myself both laughing and grieving. Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise give career best performances in this movie. Hoffman specifically gives what is a strong contender for the greatest performance ever put to film, the amount of small details in his performance is inhuman. My biggest issues are the length being too long and Hans Zimmer’s score (while great on its own) not always fitting the tone. Even with those issues I still find myself returning to this Best Picture winner for the great script and performances.

A boring educational movie that has nothing to say about Abraham Lincoln other than the basic facts that everyone knows. It’s the most basic way of telling his story you can imagine. A lot of the technical aspects are serviceable but the movie looks terrible and some of the makeup effects are horrendous. The only parts of this movie that interested me were the scenes where Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones got to monologue. It’s nothing but pretentious Oscar bait, it shocks me that Spielberg directed this.

Good movie about how holding onto some traditions will only end up hurting the world. My favorite Nolan movie. No scene is wasted, the concept is genius, the editing is perfect, the dialogue is mature and often poetic, the characters are endlessly dissectible, the music is helpful yet not overbearing, the lighting and framing are beautiful, etc. The complexity and detail of the script boggles my mind, it’s perhaps the most impressive use of a non-linear plot I’ve seen in a movie.

Like The Piano Teacher, this is not a movie that seeks to satisfy you. Its goal is to present the truth, and sometimes the truth isn’t pleasant. I’d say it’s more accessible than The Piano Teacher, but it is still incredibly difficult to watch. This movie gives a realistic depiction of aging and Alzheimer’s that does not feel held back in the slightest. No cheap happy endings, no non-diegetic emotionally manipulative music, no pointless scenes that solely exist to satisfy low attention spans, just an honest and emotional look at the hardships of old age. Do not expect a satisfying and overly stimulating movie going into this.

So obviously this movie’s existence is pointless and this franchise should’ve ended 16 years ago. Director Andrew Stanton (WALL-E, Finding Nemo) could’ve spent the time he used to make this movie on an original project. As for the movie itself I thought it was fine.
Toys becoming obsolete to rising tech is a natural progression for the series, and it handles this conflict in a decent way. It was engaging to watch the hijinks the characters got into and the resolution they found to living with tech. The plot was super messy however, it often felt unintentionally episodic. The jokes were nowhere near the level of the first three movies. The series’ dialogue used to feel fresh compared to majority of animated movies, but now it just feels like it’s written for exclusively kids. There are a ton of moments in this movie that feel like they’re trying to be a “Pixar crying moment” but fail. The 2nd and 3rd movie had sad moments but they felt natural in the story. For some reason they bring Woody back, but he has no purpose in the story. He’s just there because it’s a Toy Story movie.
This movie just doesn’t feel like it has the same level of importance as the first three movies, and even the fourth one. Those movies have significant character arcs and a significant impact on the series, while this movie could be entirely removed from the series and nothing would change. I liked it a little more than 4, mainly because I feel like the concept is better and the plot is more entertaining, but this movie shows how stale and out of touch Pixar has become.

An absolute classic with not only groundbreaking animation but groundbreaking storytelling that proved that animation could be more than just fairy tales and could have sophisticated themes and complex arcs. The development the characters go through in this movie is very natural and believable, they don’t change just because the script demands it but rather because of what happens to them in the story. Instead of doing the typical “follow your dreams” message, this movie has a more mature message of finding meaning in life when your dreams don’t seem to work out. Woody learns it’s okay to not be the favorite and Buzz learns to accept a more mundane life instead of being an sci-fi hero. The story is very well paced and balances the sophisticated messages with good humor and chemistry. The voice acting is iconic, it casts celebrities who actually fit the roles they are given instead of just being marketable names. The animation isn’t great but it’s hard to critique it given the circumstances of the movie. My problems with the movie are that there’s a lot of weird plot conveniences. For some reason Buzz pretends to be a toy even though he thinks he’s a space ranger. The toys also have inconsistent strength. For some reason Woody can’t lift a big box but he can chuck Christmas lights across two houses with the same strength of a human and hold off a big dog. For some reason RC racer can go the same speed as a truck, and when the wrestler toy spins Woody it magically makes RC racer spin. Aside from the more technical issues I also found Randy Newman’s songs to be bad. You Got A Friend is decent but the two other songs are horrible and ruin their respective scenes. The scene where Buzz tries to fly is supposed to be emotional but it just ends up feeling stupid because of Randy Newman’s dumb voice. This movie definitely isn’t perfect like a lot of people say but I still think it’s great, and you definitely have to respect it for its impact on Hollywood and movies as a whole.

Objectively there is not another album with a more complex and detailed use of sampling than this. Over 3500 samples ranging from comedy skits to jazz songs are used to create a cohesive hour long dance album. From the moment this album begins your ears are met with a dense and bustling atmosphere that is chaotic yet beautiful to listen to. It can be described as a walk through the greatest party ever thrown. The melodies crafted from the sporadic samples are incredibly catchy and memorable, as are the groovy rhythms. The album has a wide emotional range, at times the album can be uplifting yet at other times it can sound haunting. There are zero original lyrics in the album and yet it is able to perfectly capture the emotions and ideas it sets out to. The way this album plays with texture is incredible, vinyl fuzz and radio static are used to enhance the atmosphere of the album rather than just incidentally being there. To sum it up, this album is like Revolution 9 if it was actually listenable and not just an experiment. If you’re not sure about listening to this album, I’d recommend listening to the most popular and accessible songs from the album; Frontier Psychiatrist and Since I Left You.

A movie that ends as well as it starts. It’s nearly three hours long yet it never looses its steam. The story is very eclectic but at the same time everything serves a purpose. All of the characters are memorable and likable. The themes are profound, they strike a balance between having easy to understand messages but also having more to uncover beneath those basic messages. The movie doesn’t really leave you with an answer to the question “is life destined or random” but that’s fine because you can come up with your own conclusion based on the events you witnessed. There are many light hearted elements to this movie but darkness lurks around the corner of every scene, which is a perfect vibe considering the story features a simple man growing up in 20th century America. Vietnam, Watergate, Ruby Bridges, John Lennon, AIDS, drugs, this movie tackles many interesting and difficult topics in a way that feels realistic rather than showy. The movie looks beautiful and the visual effects are fantastic. The scenes where Forrest is placed next to Lennon, JFK, etc. still look impressive to this day. And to top all of this, it’s just a fun movie. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to be a masterpiece, it just comes naturally to the movie given all of the talent behind it. One of the best Best Picture winners, even if Pulp Fiction probably deserved it.
Edit: Another great aspect of this movie is the soundtrack. I wouldn’t listen to the soundtrack on its own since it’s mostly pop songs, but the main reason why the soundtrack works so well is because it works as a clock for the movie. There’s never a moment where Forrest has to narrate the year awkwardly because the songs tell you. When “Go Your Own Way” plays it not only fits the energetic vibe of the scene but it also lets you know that he’s running across America in the early 70’s. It’s the textbook example of a good soundtrack because it feels built into the movie rather than slapped on.

Since listening to “The Banana Album” I’ve been craving music that blends melodic hooks with experimental sounds and textures. That album helped me realize that noise rock is probably my favorite genre of music, I love albums like Nevermind and The Glow Pt. 2 that focus on textures and fuzz. Even albums I like that aren’t noise rock (like Pet Sounds) focus a lot on how the texture of an album sounds rather than just focusing on melody or rhythm (Pet Sounds famously uses the Wall Of Sound technique). I heard about this album and apparently it took influence from the VU by combining noisy textures with simple hooks and chord progressions. The band is called “Women” and consists of four dudes. So I listened to the album and it was mid. The songwriting and production are solid but there is just nothing memorable or note worthy about it. You shouldn’t make a good album to be experimental, you should be experimental to make a good album. Lou Reed and Brian Wilson did the latter, while Women did the former. I’m all for experimentation as long as it’s not just for the sake of it. So sadly while I love noise rock this album was mostly purposeless. Not bad, just mediocre.

Everything in this movie is crafted with absurd detail, the sets, costumes, effects, etc. It makes the violence and suffering in the movie impactful. It feels like you’re watching a real breathing world and not just actors on a set. The stakes of this movie are high and feel real, and the movie never gives its characters any benefit. Characters have to actually work to find ways conquer challenges, so I was always engaged by the plot. It was intriguing to see just how Glass would get out of the situations he was in, at times I did not have any idea about where the story was going to go. This movie is a fairly simple tale of revenge but the way it’s crafted makes all of the difference. My only problem is the ending felt a tad bland, but on rewatch that might change knowing how the rest of the movie plays out.

After a re-listen I enjoy this even more and it’s become one of my favorites. By far Lou Reed’s greatest achievement in songwriting I’ve heard so far. The songs are catchy and hummable yet beautiful and complex. The out of tune and fuzzy instruments are amazing and give the entire album an emotional, homemade vibe. Lou Reed and Nico aren’t the world’s greatest singers but I care more about emotion more than how you sound. Kurt Cobain and John Fogerty aren’t great vocalists because they are amazing singers but because they put a heavy amount of soul and passion into their vocals, and it’s the same with Lou Reed and Nico. The instruments as well aren’t in tune or on time, but they are clearly played with passion and that’s what matters to me. The lyrics are poetic and sound lovely, yet they tackle heavy themes like addiction and loneliness. This album paints a depressing picture of NYC in the late 60’s and listening to it is engaging and thought provoking. This album’s raw and homemade aesthetic was influential to the punk scene and alternative rock as a whole, you can see the influence this album had on famous bands like Nirvana and Radiohead.

During the 80’s a bunch of British punk bands didn’t know what to do with their sound. Their whole style revolved around being messy and underproduced and they faced a decade where the most popular music was polished and futuristic. This album’s good but it’s clear that the Smiths are at their best as a punk band rather than a rock band.

After watching Marty Supreme it became clear to me that Josh Safdie was more responsible for Good Time and Uncut Gems than Benny was. If you told me that both Josh and Benny directed Marty then I would’ve believed you, but it seems that Josh was the real mind behind the duo all along. It’s his style that’s big, stressful, and nightmarish. Benny was credited but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was only Josh who directed Gems and GT. I was eager to see what kind of movie Benny would make without his brother, perhaps the style would be similar or the movie would be bland. Instead I was surprised with a movie that shares some similarities with Josh’s movies but stands out with its overall chill and ethereal vibe. This movie feels more like a day dream as opposed to the nightmare that is Marty Supreme. Watching Johnson’s character grapple with addiction and identity loss was fascinating. Johnson gives a career best performance in this movie, he sells the fact that his character is a gentle giant. The music is fitting, the editing is interesting, the sound design is beautiful, the fight scenes are engaging, etc. I feel like his relationship with his girlfriend and the world of the UFC could’ve been more developed, it feels like the story is lacking. Given this is Benny’s first solo outing however, I would call this movie a great debut and I’m excited to see more from him.

A gold mine of laughably terrible filmmaking. Nightmare fuel animation, sloppy editing, cheesy and unnatural dialogue, a nonsensical story, awkward pacing, and just terrible direction in general. I adore this album. The lyrics explore nostalgia and British culture in a way that doesn’t feel pandering in the slightest but shows emotion and care. The melodies are simple but amazingly effective, I find nearly every song on this album catchy. At the same time however it employs complex instrumentation and rhythms. Songs like Sitting By The Riverside are unexpectedly crazy. The album combines a ton of influences including folk, blues, psychedelic rock, and even country. Yet it never feels too sporadic, the album flows very nicely. Some might find this album repetitive and dull but if you connect with the style enough then you will like this album.

This album was created to be a parody of prog rock albums, but the parody only seems to be in the lyrics. The lyrics are comically pretentious, parodying bands like Pink Floyd and Yes. However, the music itself is great. There are many complex key signatures and chord progressions, as well as many strange instruments. Even though the album is mainly a joke, it’s a thoughtfully made joke.

I had their chicken nuggets last night and wasn't impressed, it wasn't crispy enough and the taste was odd. However, what elevates this restaurant is the fries and drinks. The waffle fries are perfectly crispy and the perfect size, while the milkshakes balance thickness with smoothness. Combine KFC's chicken and this restaurant's fries and milkshakes and you have the greatest fast food chain ever.

The plot is really bad. The Grinch isn’t a story that’s meant to be stretched out into a full movie. The main plot of the movie doesn’t even start until we’re a hour in. For some reason in this movie the Grinch is actually right which doesn’t make sense. In the original story The Who’s were the good guys but in this movie they are pretty much the villains, which makes the entire movie feel pointless. They add in extra backstory for characters who were never meant to be deep, like Cindy Lou or the Grinch himself. The shots in this movie are so weird, there’s an egregious amount of Dutch angles to the point where it’s nauseating. For some reason every one has this makeup on that makes them look like deformed cats, although the makeup on Jim Carrey is pretty impressive. The set design is although really impressive, I love how detailed everything is. Jim Carrey also gives a funny performance and there are some good jokes here and there. This movie is a fun experience but it is definitely not good. The Chuck Jones one is the better, the Illumination one is worse.

The animation has not aged very well, it’s insane that this came out the same year as How To Train Your Dragon and Toy Story 3. What makes it even more insane is the fact that it’s one of the most expensive movies ever made. It made some impressive achievements in animation for its time (the lantern scene and the hair animation was groundbreaking) but holy moly are there some washed out colors and textures. Other than that though this movie is pretty fun. It’s a classic Disney adventure but to me it’s always been better than most Disney movies. What mainly carries this movie is the animation and writing. This is in my top ten in terms of visuals for movies. Every frame is beautiful and interesting to look at. If this movie was live action or had cheaper animation then it would not work well. The writing is witty and clever. Like The Incredibles and Ratatouille, there are many lines in this movie that you could frame on a wall. All of the characters (especially the villain) are funny and likable. The commentary on the Cold War works very well and doesn’t feel forced. My biggest issue with this movie is the story. The pacing is all over the place and it barely feels like anything happens. Most of the movie is just filler, it’s only until the end where things actually happen. There are many plot points that feel forced and unnatural, especially at the end when the giant runs away. Some of the emotional beats feel forced as well. The score is also very over the top and annoying. So while this movie has some amazing aspects to it, it’s held back by the story.

(I forgot to log this when we watched it). This movie is fun but honestly what brings it down is the weird race metaphor they were trying to go for. Equating race relations in America with prey and predator relations between animals is kind of messed up when you think about it. Especially when they start describing the "predators" as being "larger and louder" than the "prey." This whole movie is filled with these types of weird allegories and it makes the entire experience very uncomfortable. It’s also painfully unfunny.

On rewatch I’m kind of realizing that a lot of what makes this movie work for me is Heath Ledger. The Joker is pretty much the only thing I see people reference from this movie. It is one of the most iconic performances ever. Everything else is just good. A ton of the dialogue is very cringe. They pretty much just say the message they are going for out loud a couple of times. I also think Christian Bale is not a good Batman at all. I don’t buy him as Bruce Wayne and his Batman persona isn’t intimidating in the slightest. The best Batman I’ve seen is probably the Patterson one. Harvey Dent is kind of interesting but the whole Two Face thing felt rushed. I would’ve liked to see more of Two Face but he barely gets any time to be evil. The action is great, the practical effects make everything feel more thrilling. Hans Zimmer’s score is great, though it doesn’t compare to Elfman or even Giacchino. Getting back to the Joker, every scene he is in is very engaging. They should make a solo movie with him or something. But if this movie didn’t have the Joker I feel like people wouldn’t be calling it one of the greatest movies ever made. That’s not to say that the rest of the movie isn’t good, it’s well shot, well directed, thrilling, and overall engaging. But the Joker is the only part that I’d call truly exceptional. IMO Nolan peaked with projects like Memento and Oppenheimer, where he could tell more mature and complex stories without having to appeal to the superhero movie crowd. That’s not to say if you like this movie then you’re not mature, I’m just saying that with these movies it feels like Nolan is dumbing himself down a little.

I don’t think I’ve seen a movie that is more gripping than this. Last time I was this engaged while watching a movie was when I watched the Shining for the first time a while back. This is a Danish psychological drama about a preschool teacher who is accused of abusing one of his students, sending him on a downward spiral as his town falls into mass hysteria and believes the accusation to be true. The movie does a great job at making you care for him, and what happens to him throughout the film is absolutely heartbreaking and shocking. It is extremely powerful stuff. It’s a cautionary tale on jumping to conclusions and mob mentality, but it also works as a great character study. This movie explores trauma and how it can spread, as many of the bad actions characters make in this movie come from their trauma. Nearly every character’s trauma is explored in this movie, making you care for even the most minor characters. The way one girl’s trauma over neglect from her parents is portrayed is so realistic that it becomes hard to separate from reality. The acting is also phenomenal, the lead actor in this should’ve won an Oscar. Even the child actors are great, which is rare for movies. I don’t want to say more because I think everyone should watch this movie. It’s in another language, but that does not drag down the experience in the slightest. I wish Hollywood made foreign movies more accessible to the public, because majority of Americans miss out on great and emotionally devastating movies like this.

Great movie. I don’t think I was ever bored. The visuals are electric and beautiful. The plot is very thrilling. Superman, Lois, Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern, etc. are all very likable characters. I also think this is the best Lex Luthor I’ve ever seen on screen (I’ve only seen the Gene Hackman one and the Jesse Eisenberg one). It’s confusing what the message is for a lot of the movie but after that ending scene it became very clear. The visual effects are very good, it’s rare to see a blockbuster that actually uses cgi well. Most comic book movies try to take themselves seriously, but this movie embraced its weirdness and it was delightful. I hope James Gunn keeps making super hero movies, as well as any type of movie.
Edit: after two rewatches my opinion of this movie has decreased. All of my original compliments stand but a ton of other little issues kind of piled up for me. I don’t want to explain them all but to summarize the story is very messy and I don’t connect with the characters much despite them being likable.

There is nothing wrong with liking this movie. This is an extremely faithful adaptation of HTTYD that does not try to replace the original in the slightest. It more feels like a 15th anniversary re-release, which is not something I can say about some of the more atrocious live action remakes (Lion King, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, etc.). For this reason I do not hate this movie. That being said, there is absolutely no reason for this to exist and I was extremely bored throughout. It's basically the first movie but executed in a much worse way. All of the line deliveries suck so bad. It was so cringe the way they said so many iconic lines. In the first movie there was a very precise and intentional pacing to the dialogue. The comedic and dramatic timing was pretty much perfect. In this movie the dialogue was paced so poorly. Most of the acting is terrible. The new actors clearly didn't understand the characters. The only decent performance was Stoick, but even that was just decent. The original actor, Gerald Butler, was great as a voice actor, but as a regular actor he is kind of mid. Many of the scenes look very ugly. This is a movie that was clearly meant to be animated. The story is paced very poorly compared to the original. All of the magic of the original just feels gone. There is absolutely no reason to watch this movie. Why would you watch this when the original exists? It's literally just a worse version of the original. Even though it was nice to hear that beautiful music again in the theater, I don't think it's worth it to go see it. Go see Superman instead or something idk.

Watched the original theatrical version. Star Wars is great as pretty much everybody knows. Probably the most iconic movie ever made. The characters, the sets, the score, the special effects, everything is iconic. The actions scenes still hold up, they are very intense. This movie is also genuinely funny, unlike the prequels which are ironically funny. There isn’t really much else to say since this is the most talked about movie ever. I don’t understand how George Lucas went from making a masterpiece like American Graffiti and a classic like Star Wars to writing dialogue like "You are so... beautiful." "It's only because I'm so in love." "No, it's because I'm so in love with you." "So love has blinded you?" Why do people think Paul McCartney was replaced when it’s clearly obvious that George Lucas was.

This review contains spoilers.
The most basic, by the numbers way you can depict the story of Harriet Tubman. When you depict slavery in a movie, you kind of have to go all in. Not doing so would be disrespectful. You can’t sugar coat horrible things like slavery. Movies like 12 Years A Slave and Django Unchained don’t shy away from depicting the true horror of slavery. These movies are hard to watch, but their depictions of slavery are honest. They show their audience what slavery was truly like. This movie sugar coats slavery. We constantly hear how horrible it is but we never actually see anything bad. I’ve heard the argument that this movie needs to be pg-13 in order for kids to it and be educated, but if you think about this for a moment it literally makes no sense. If we are trying to show kids how horrible slavery was, we need to tell them the truth and not sugar coat it.This movie will miseducate kids if they see it. I honestly don’t care if kids can’t go see it in theaters, it’s not worth it to misinform kids on how horrible slavery was. As for the rest of the movie, it’s mostly trash. The editing is absolutely atrocious. There are so many cuts in this movie that are sloppy and serve no purpose. The cinematography looks good in some shots but it’s mostly trash. Cynthia Erivo and Leslie Odom Jr. give good performances, but so many other performances in this movie suck. The score is garbage. It sounds like every other generic action score. It plays in scenes that don’t need music at all, making the scenes even worse. The story is very poorly paced. The dialogue is cringe. Basically what I’m trying to say is just watch 12 Years A Slave instead of this.

Beautiful movie about the importance of pursuing your dreams, even if it means sacrificing things you love. Everything is absolutely amazing, the cinematography, the score, the writing, the songs, the acting, etc. My only problem with this movie is that I think Mia and Sebastian are kind of B tier characters, but that’s about it. Most people who don’t like this movie seem to not like it because it feels like an over the top musical, but that’s the point. The musical sequences in this movie are meant to represent people’s dreams. Within these musical sequences everything seems to be perfect, only to go back to the chaotic and messy real world. The contrast between the cheesy, Roger/Hammerstein-esque musical world and the bleak depressing real world represents dreams vs reality. This movie is genius and I could recommend it to anyone.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 2024

This review contains spoilers.
This was the best movie in the series. The best parts about it were without a doubt the villains. It sounds dumb writing this, but Shadow was genuinely a sympathetic villain with a good backstory. I was kind of rooting for him if I was being honest. Jim Carrey as Eggman and Gerald was an absolute blast. He steals every scene he is in. The VR montage, the dance scene, the climax, the scene where they meet, etc. Jim Carrey gives it his all and I love it. I love how Gerald goes from being a goofy Dr. Doofenschmirtz type villain to being a "humanity was a mistake" villain. Great stuff. Also eggman's assistant is gay, so that's funny. Other than the villains though this movie was pretty boring and at times cringe. Sonic is one of the most annoying characters in fiction. Tails and Knuckles aren't far off in that department either. Sonic's human friends are generic and not funny. The plot is kind of all over the place but at its core it's pretty basic and bland. "Stop the villain from destroying the world with a lazer" is pretty overdone as you probably know. At least it has a more interesting plot than the first movie, which is just a road trip movie. The CGI looks better than a lot of movies but it still doesn't look too great. I'd recommend this movie if you want to watch some Jim Carrey shenanigans, but there's not much to offer outside of that.

One of the most acclaimed movies of the year. I personally thought it was fine. There are definetly some thought provoking concepts in this movie, but it did not feel like it was saying anything. It does not feel like it is trying to stick out or make a statement, it is just another oscar-bait drama. I thought the acting was good, and the cinematography was excellent. I thought it was engaging and interesting, but there are no suprises. You can pretty much guess how the movie is going to play out given the first five minutes. The music is incredibly generic and it made the movie seem pretentious at times. I thought this movie's sets were incredible. Very little of it was actually filmed in the Vatican, which shocked me. The Sistine Chapel looks so authentic that I would genuinely believe that they got special permission to film it there. But no, it was just a set. The main character is very likeable and the other characters were fine. The themes of order, tradition, politics, etc. are handled very well. It never feels bias, it shows both sides of the argument on issues such as homosexuality, Muslim extremism, systematic sexism, etc. This movie is worth a watch but I don't get why it is one of the most acclaimed movies of the year.

Challengers is the best movie of 2024 (so far). Yeah, the trailers for it are super sussy. But honestly, what do you expect from modern Hollywood? Markerters always try to make the movie look sussy so that perverts will want to go see it. When I first saw the trailer for this movie, I expected it to be dumb and cheesy. I didn't expect to ever watch it. Suddenly, this movie started getting amazing reviews, with some people calling it a masterpiece. This shocked me, and it made me curious to check it out. I was confused as to why some people were calling the sussy Zendaya tennis movie a masterpiece. And now after watching it, I can safely say that this is indeed a masterpiece. This movie impressed me in so many ways.

This movie is unironically an iconic masterpiece. The dialog is absolutely amazing and engraved in our modern culture. The story is not only meta but also very engaging and emotionally sophisticated. The characters are all lovable. The score is great. The animation still holds up today. It is funny as shit. Farquad is such a great villain who is a great contrast to the main character. The soundtrack is iconic and helps with the movie's personality. Every scene impacts the next, nothing feels like filler. This movie is genuinely ground breaking, as it inspired almost every mainstream animated movie that came after it. It is genuinely a 10/10 and I urge you to watch it.

This review contains spoilers.
Really just an amazing movie for any artist to watch, whether aspiring, successful, or failed. It says so much about the way people interpret and critique art, as well as having some commentary about how we have settled for mediocrity in the modern world. Instead of experimenting and trying something new, we often settle for mediocrity, as the rats eat trash, or as they try to sell Gusteu microwave food. Seeing Remy challenged in a world where nobody cares about his passion is pretty much relatable to anyone, including myself. It is very satisfying to see him become the great chef he's dreamed of being. I love how Linguini never learns to cook like Remy, rather he just sticks to what he is talented at and succeeds at it. This movie is very risky for being an animated movie that is adult oriented, but I'm glad they made the risk, because this movie is simply just therapeutic for any struggling artist. It's odd how Remy doesn't talk for half of the movie, but honestly that's the biggest problem. Watch this movie if you haven't already, it is truly amazing.

(Spoilers)
This movie is a modern classic. It has only been a few years and it is already iconic and engraved in our culture. There never is a dull moment in this movie, there is constant interesting character moments and well filmed action. It is very suspenseful, the movie establishes from the beginning that they are willing to kill off anyone when the kid is killed in the beginning. The movie does a good job at showing the character's emotions without dialog. The cinematography was very good, although at moments it felt a bit dull. A lot of my issues with this movie have to do with the world building. There are a lot of plot holes that really bug me, and at times it feels like the characters are conveniently stupid to drive the plot forward. I hated the stupid girl, she was just a plot device for most of the movie. There are many inconsistencies with what noises trigger the aliens, a character will make a loud noise and nothing would happen, but then make a quiet noise and suddenly the aliens hear it. I also didn't like the alien design, it felt derivative of other movie monsters like the Xenomorph. This movie has some problems but it is still very good. Hopefully John Krasinski will make more movies like this.

Very boring movie that has almost zero originality. Almost every line and concept has been done before, to the point where it didn't feel like a Garfield movie at all. You could replace Garfield with any other popular animated character and the story would still work. Chris Pratt is a shit voice actor. He didn't even try to do a unique voice for the role, he was just doing his usual lazy voice work. There are tons of embarrassing animation errors that go beyond stuff you have to dig for to notice, there are some very obvious mistakes here. Not one joke nor emotional moment landed. I would genuinely recommend the Bill Murray one over this, because at least that one has good voice acting and it feels like a Garfield movie. Also watch the show.

So much of this movie just baffles me. The tone conflicting humor, the odd relationships between different characters, the folk songs that keep playing, the fact that they added sci-fi to what's supposed to be a grounded children's book series, etc. By all accounts this movie should be terrible, but this movie manages overcome it's flaws. George and TMWTYH have a good dynamic, the voice acting is mostly good, there is some good animation, the humor is pretty solid, the score is good, and overall this movie has an enormous amount of charm to it that makes it impossible not to like this movie. If you're looking for a fun movie for family night, I highly recommend this.

This is another movie that I'd call one of my top ten favorites. I have watched this movie more than ten times and it has not gotten old in the slightest. Every rewatch I'm still discovering new things. I love this movie. Its deadpan humor is hilarious, the characters are all lovable, the animation is warm and charming, it has a great script, the score is one of my favorites, the cinematography is amazing, etc. If Wes Anderson's style is not your thing then this movie might not be your cup of tea, but honestly I would call this his best movie. It's not too deep into his style, but it also has just enough of it. This is my favorite animated movie and I recommend that you watch it at least once in your life.

Amazing from start to finish. The visuals are always outstanding and never boring. The conflicts the characters go through are very unique and interesting. The acting is believable, the action is exhilarating, the emotional moments are moving, the score is brilliant, I could go on. This movie is very risky yet confident with it's grand scope, but it lives up to that scope completely. There are a few moments that were odd (like the kissing scene between the fat guy and Austin Butler), and the loud orchestra hit that plays whenever something big happens can be a little repetitive. Those problems barely mean anything because of how good everything else in this movie is. This will stand with The Lord Of The Rings and the original Star Wars trilogy as being one of the greatest film franchises ever.

This review contains spoilers.
Cabrini is a step up from other faith based movies in terms of it's visual presentation. This movie had pretty good production design and cinematography. This movie also has some good performances. Aside from that however, this movie was boring. You never really get to know the main character, by the end of the movie it feels like nothing has happened. Most characters in general were written as archtypes. The movie was structured in a way that was very formulaic. I get that it's based on a true story, but they should have told the story in a more original way. Overall the story is poorly written and boring. There are a lot of lines in this movie that are parody level bad. It also shoves the message down your throat and doesn't let you pick up on anything. The score sounded like royalty free music. This movie goes on for too long, I desperately wanted it to end after the two hour mark. I didn't hate this movie, but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. Comparing it to the Godfather is a joke.

If the worst part about a movie is that it ends, that's how you know it's a good movie. Great action, great performances, great visual effects, great dialog, great soundtrack, great characters, great production design, great cinematography, etc. This movie's scope is incredibly large and ambitious, and it never fails to live up to this. The world and lore of this movie is incredibly interesting and endlessly fun. This movie is very much a part one, as most of the movie feels like a prolog. This makes the story feel unfinished, with the ending feeling abrupt. Honestly though, that just shows how much this movie sucks you in to it's world and it's characters. I never wanted this movie to end, I was always captivated. If I were to give any other problems, some scenes are a little too darkly lit, and I can barely see anything that was going on. Even after I turned on the TV brightness to it's full capacity, I still could barely see what was going on in these scenes. I also think that the big celebrity cast could feel a little distracting at some parts. It was like they were trying to shove every big name actor in this movie. It made the movie more successful, which is great, but it still feels a little distracting. These problems barely effected my experience however. Mark my words, Dune will be the next great cinematic franchise, standing with the original Star Wars trilogy and The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I am very excited to see the second installment tonight.

This movie has a boring plot, but honestly, it makes up for it with its presentation. The animation is crude and edgy, and I love it. It's refreshing to see animated characters that aren't drawn to be cute and marketable, but rather gnarly and gross. I like how Splinter is more of a Dad than a sensei, April is more of a nerd than a love interest, and the turtles are more like teens than ninjas. The dialogue is Super Bad-esque, which is a perfect fit for TMNT. The voice acting is perfect. Trent Reznor's musical score is the best I've heard all year. His killer techno-rock complements this movie as well as cheese complements wine. I was going through something tough last week, and this movie managed to cheer me up. I adore it despite the boring plot. I cannot wait for the sequel.

Baby Driver 2017

This review contains spoilers.
Baby Driver is one of the most visually impressive movies I've ever seen. Every shot is meaningful and clever. The editing is very clean. The action is easy to follow. The characters are synced to this movie's soundtrack, which becomes very impressive at times since the actors would have to be very coordinated. The sound design is also impressive. The main character of the movie has a disability where there is a constant ringing in his ear, and he drowns this out by listening to music. Whenever the soundtrack isn't playing in the movie, you can hear a slight ringing in the background, which increases in volume whenever he is stressed or he bumps into something. The performances are all perfect, although it can be awkward at times since this movie stars Ansel Elgort and Kevin Spacey. This movie can occasionally be cheesy and predictable at times, and there are a ton of tropes and cliches. Maybe this was intentional, but if so then it didn't do anything to subvert the tropes and cliches. However, the movie makes up for this with it's perfectly paced plot. It never slows down and it becomes very intense near the third act. This movie is great and is everything an action movie should be.

This movie felt like it was four hours long. Everything was paced horribly, especially the jokes. There were so many moments during this movie where I was questioning what was supposed to be a joke and what wasn't. The satire was painfully obvious. Either an AI or an idiot wrote this movie. There were so many cliches, and I couldn't tell if it was a parody or not. If it was, then it was communicated very poorly. This movie tries to be sentimental near the end, but it isn't earned since most of the movie presents itself as a farce. It is awkward and it made me want to die. The acting is terrible. The cinematography is bland. The editing and sound editing were horrible and unprofessional. This movie isn't daring, it's just embarrassing. It makes the right wing look bad. I cannot believe the audacity of Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, etc. to criticize some of the most acclaimed and beloved movies of the past century, and then promote this pile of hot garbage. This is one of the most boring and agonizing experiences I've ever had with a movie and I hope I can forget about this as soon as possible. Thankfully, I've already forgotten half of it.

This review contains spoilers.
Get Out is a rare Blumhouse win. This is one of the smartest horror movies I've ever seen. Every single line of dialogue matters and will come back at some point. The dialogue itself is a tad boring, but thankfully the movie more often tells the story with its visuals. The cinematography perfectly captures the unease and creepiness of every scene. The set design is uncanny and captures a creepy retro vibe. The acting is fantastic, although I think the main character is very basic. I feel like you could replace the main character with anyone, and the movie would still work. I also don't like how the movie keeps cutting to the main character's friend, it feels unnecessary and kills the tone whenever it happens. Those are the only problems I have with the movie though. This movie expertly paces its mystery. It grips you and leaves you guessing at every moment. The reveals are humble and don't try to be overly dramatic, but they are still impactful. This movie's social commentary never feels preachy or in your face. It feels personal and it works perfectly well with the story. Many scenes in this movie are already iconic in American culture, even though this movie is only six years old. This movie is a modern classic and I recommend it to any horror or mystery fan.

The Lego Movie is a gift from God. It manages to be a meta complex masterpiece, yet fun and hilarious. Every aspect of this movie soars. The problems with this movie are minimal and don't matter to me at all, so you can't really call them "problems." I see a lot of people give this movie an eight or a nine out of ten, but I think that people are only not giving this movie a perfect score because it's goofy. A movie doesn't have to be serious to be a ten out of ten. The Lego Movie proves that a movie can be goofy but also be a masterpiece. In my opinion, it's the fifth best animated movie ever made, the best animated movie of the 2010's, and one of the best movies of the 21st century so far.

Fantasia 1940

This review contains spoilers.
This is one of the most striking movies I have ever seen. The ambition of the animation makes it unbelievable that this came out in 1940. Segments like The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Night On Bald Mountain are beautiful and entertaining. I've heard many people say that the segments during the middle (the dinosaurs and the Greek gods) are boring, but I found every segment to be interesting and captivating. The live-action parts are well-lighted and have some great colors, and the narrator during these segments is very likable. This movie is a love letter to music and the inspiration it has on the world, and this is communicated very well without outright saying it. The only problem with this movie is that sometimes the narrator over explains a segment, but that doesn't affect my enjoyment of this movie. This movie is a timeless classic that deserves all of the praise it has received over the years. 10/10.

There is truly nothing else to say about this movie that hasn't already been said. The phrase "there is truly nothing else to say about this movie that hasn't already been said" has probably already been said about this movie. This movie shows the horrors of the holocaust like no other movie, TV show, book, etc. has ever done. It doesn't exploit the holocaust (like many other movies do), it shows the horrors of it for its viewers to know the evil that has been present in this world. Steven Spielberg made this movie because schools weren't teaching the Holocaust when he was alive. This movie helped make sure that the event was taught, and to this day we still feel the movie's impact. This is Spielberg's most personal film. You can tell that he gave it his all while making this movie. Everything is flawless. The issues with this movie are very small and feel like nothing compared to its achievements. Watch this movie immediately. It is not only fantastic but the American government (yes I'm serious) recommended that everyone should watch it. For people who don't like R-rated movies, make an exception because this movie is one of the most important movies ever.

A charming little Wes Anderson movie. The quality is amazing as usual, but this movie could've used a better plot and more interesting characters. There is a part of the movie where something very weird happens, and you think the movie's plot will change and get more interesting, but then the movie goes back to normal and you're left disappointed. It was pretty funny and the music was good. I was interested in this movie's themes of grief, chaos, and uncertainty. The movie explores these themes is a subtle way that leaves an impact on you. A lot of people seem to hate Wes Anderson movies and say that they are pretentious and that they value style over substance. These criticisms have never made sense to me, as his films are always filled with complex themes and messages and layered characters. His films are also very goofy and humble, so I don't understand why people call them pretentious. I am convinced that anybody who says these things have never seen a Wes Anderson movie, and they are just judging by the trailers or quoting a dumb guy on the internet.

Another one that I watched with my youth group. Definitely in my top ten. One of the most well-executed films I've ever seen. The pacing is perfect, the film never slows down and is consistently entertaining. The score is one of the greatest film scores I've ever heard. It is without a doubt Hanz Zimmer's best score. The characters are all lovable, sympathetic, and interesting. This movie's themes and writing are very mature. This film sticks out from the rest of Disney's catalog because of how mature it feels. The soundtrack is Disney's best. It doesn't have the single best Disney song in it ("Hellfire"), but "Circle of Life", "Hakuna Matata", "Be Prepared", etc. are all equally amazing and the soundtrack is overall Disney's best. The voice acting is Disney's best. The animation is also Disney's best. Every single frame of this film is perfectly crafted and iconic. The story is captivating. My only problem with this movie is that there are some tonal problems, and some scenes could have been better without jokes. But like that's the only issue I have with it. Mastapiece.

Bloody and grisly imagery is shown throughout, but none of it feels exploitative. The movie uses this imagery to show us the horrors of war and why we should respect those who fought for our country. Said soldiers are interesting characters who all represent unique ideas and themes. The cinematography is top-notch and the practical effects are impressive. "You should seek help from a psychiatrist," said Ezra Miller. In all seriousness though, I went into this movie with an open mind, and there were some aspects of it that I liked. The way this movie is shot is more interesting and fun than most modern-day blockbusters. Michael Keaton did a good job reprising his role. The music was well composed. There were some amusing jokes, but they didn't outnumber the obnoxious jokes. This movie's visual effects look like PS3 graphics. The story is boring and is paced horribly. Half of my family fell asleep watching this movie. The cameos are shoved into the movie and don't make any sense story-wise. The action scenes in this movie are ridiculous (and not in a fun way). The script is obvious and thin. Ezra Miller was not convincing in his performance. I'm not just saying that because he is a terrible person, I genuinely think he did a bad job. This movie parodies the buddy cop genre, yet it manages to be the greatest buddy cop movie ever. The acting is brilliant. The villain manages to be both terrifying and hilarious, similar to Heath Ledger's Joker. The only problem with this movie is that it takes place in Britain 😔.

This is the best documentary I have ever seen. The subject matter (violence in America) is explored deeply and captivatingly. Michael Moore interviews people expertly and gets interesting information out of them. The music choice greatly compliments the visuals. The visuals themselves are fantastic and compliment Michael Moore's narration. I don't agree with everything this documentary says, but that doesn't matter. It is irrelevant. Definitely a must see documentary.

This movie is worse than I remember it being. It's not very funny and the story is messy. This was definitely worth the wait. This movie makes the first two look like the recent Hobbit trilogy. This movie is the longest in the trilogy, clocking in at almost four hours long. However, it feels much shorter than the first two because of how perfect the pacing is. No scene is wasted. Unlike the first movie (and the second movie a little bit), exposition in this movie is shown, not told. When it is told, it's quick and captivating. The main characters went from being boring in the first two films to being sympathetic and interesting. I understand Frodo's internal and external struggles more than I did before. Random characters that should not matter are given a suprising amount of depth. The direction, cinematography, action scenes, costumes, and makeup are at their best in this movie. This is probably the best conclusion to a trilogy I've ever seen. Every good character gets a happy ending, and every evil character is vanquished and sent to hell. The special effects are insane and flawless. Sauron, Gollum, and the giant enemy spider are great villains. The battle outside of the City of Kings is one of the best war scenes I have seen for a film. Gollum's defeat is one of the best villain defeats I have seen. Every single shot is a work of art. Every scene is iconic. This movie's themes of unlikely heroes, corruption, and good versus evil are well-communicated, as well as some Christian allegories. There is more to say, but this movie has already gotten more than enough praise. This movie is the crown jewel of not only the Middle Earth franchise, but the fantasy genre. I highly recommend it if you have time to kill. (I didn't watch the extended edition but I probably will some day).

Definitely an improvement over the first movie. The story is well-paced even though it is overstuffed. The characters have more interesting internal and external conflicts. Gollum and the Ents are a delight. Like the first movie, the technical aspects are amazing. The CGI looks amazing and the makeup is intricate. I also enjoy the WW2 parallels; they are interesting to think about. I still don't like the main characters and I think the way this movie gives exposition is boring, but I think this movie is still an improvement nonetheless. I am excited to watch the acclaimed finale to this trilogy.

Yeah, it's just as good as everyone says it is. The perfect description for this movie is "visual symphony." The sound design, editing, score, cinematography, lighting, and visual effects are some of the best I've ever seen. This movie's action scenes are insane. This movie's ideas and messages are groundbreaking and interesting to ponder. It's a shame that its messages are often misinterpreted by idiots in the modern day. This movie can be considered an exposition movie, but it's an exposition movie done right. This movie gives its exposition in a captivating, interesting way. It doesn't just shove exposition in your face and expect you to care about it. Neo is a captivating protagonist, and all of the side characters are great. If I had any problems it would be that the dialogue is cringe. There are also some issues with the pacing in the middle of the movie. For the most part, however, this movie is a sci-fi classic.

My third favorite movie. This is the Coen Brothers' best work. The Dude is my favorite protagonist for any film. He isn't some prestigious important hero, he is just a lazy guy who is trying to do the right thing. His perspective on everything around him is relatable and hilarious. Speaking of which, this is the funniest movie I have ever seen. The concept and plot themselves are hilarious, and along with that we have a cast of characters with diverse personalities who play off of each other extremely well. Every scene is hilarious, and every joke lands. The script is my favorite original script. There are too many quotable lines to count. My profile name, "Not a Golfer," is quoting this movie. The direction is creative and fun. Every performance is perfect. Both Jeff Bridges and John Goodman give career-best performances. Sam Elliott occasionally popping in to give insight is great. Watch this movie as soon as you can.

This movie has a very sad history. To sum it up, it was originally going to be directed by the beloved Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, etc.), but Marvel wouldn't give him full creative control, so he quit. They replaced him with someone who isn't too good of a director (Peyton Reed), and this director made a very boring and generic film. I would have loved to see Edgar Wright's version of this movie, because honestly a superhero heist movie is a fun idea. Sadly, the movie does nothing with the idea. The villain is generic, the story is generic, the protagonist is generic, etc. Ant-Man's powers are displayed in such a boring way. Douglas's character is very annoying and so is his daughter. There are some moments of charm and some good jokes. If they invent a time machine, I'm going to steal it and stop Edgar Wright from ever leaving this movie.

This movie is in my top ten. I first watched this when I was little, and it scared the hell out of me. I avoided it for a while in fear of it, but I watched it again when I was nine to conquer my fears. Not only I succeeded in conquering them, but I also found a new favorite movie. Until I watched Jojo Rabbit, I considered this my favorite movie. It is extremely impressive in almost every way. This movie's special effects are groundbreaking and look amazing. Whenever I see modern special effects, I think back to this movie, and remind myself that a movie doesn't need gobs of CGI to look impressive. You just need talent. The very thought of directing this movie seems like a mess, but Steven Spielberg pulls it off and proves himself to be the greatest, most iconic director ever. The action is exciting and honestly this is the best action movie I've ever seen. This is also the best adventure movie I've ever seen. This statement shouldn't be too controversial, since when someone thinks 'adventure movie', the first movie that will probably come to mind is an Indiana Jones film. This is a genre-defining film, and the adventure is sweeping and iconic. Indiana Jones is such a fun and likable protagonist, and Harrison Ford is the perfect fit for the character. There are zero actors that could pull off this character other than Ford. The script is full of so much gold. Every scene has a purpose and is iconic. This movie's score is the best ever. John Williams hit it out the park when writing the music. I can't think of a movie score that's better than this movie's. This movie's opening is one of the best openings to a movie ever. It perfectly introduces the movie's tone and protagonist, while also having the switching scene, the boulder scene, and the plane escape scene. I could talk about this movie more but honestly this movie speaks for itself. If you haven't seen this movie then go watch it rn.

This review contains spoilers.
This is an anthology movie with old American frontier stories, written and directed by the Coen Bros. Overall it was pretty good. The titular character only has one story, and his story was probably the best one. I honestly wish there was a whole movie about Buster Scruggs; he is basically a cowboy version of Deadpool. As for the other stories, there was one about a bank robber (the meme of the guy getting hanged while saying 'first time?' comes from this), one about a double amputee, one about a prospecter, one about a lady on the Oregon Trail, and one about a spooky carriage ride. These stories sometimes lost my interest, but they were not bad. The way this movie looks is beautiful. The dialogue is near perfect, as usual for the Coens. The casting is perfect and very well thought-out; there wasn't one character that felt miscast in the slightest. The direction is solid and detailed. Some of the characters are really bland and uninteresting. The movie could've done a better job at making the stories feel more connected; they didn't really blend well. The pacing isn't very good, some stories get barely any screentime, and some get way too much screentime. They could've picked a better story to end the movie on, the movie feels very anticlimactic. Overall this movie was interesting despite its flaws. However, Joel and Ethan Coen are my favorite screenwriters/directors, so it's a bit disappointing that this movie was one of their last movies before their retirement.

Unbelievably amazing. This movie sticks out compared to other Coen Bros movies. The story is very random and non-linear, yet that doesn't make the events feel pointless or disconnected. This is a movie simply about life's unpredictability, and the search to find meaning in it. Whenever the main character seems to solve a problem, the problem either comes back or a new problem replaces it. In life we can work to solve problems and build ourselves up, but that doesn't stop something out of our control to hit us and make our work be all for nothing. Along with some very strong themes, this movie has great direction, performances, cinematography, etc. Amazing movie overall. One of the Coen Brothers' best films.

This movie isn't a horror movie. It is a satire on masculinity. Patrick Bateman is a buffoon. He is a Wall Street banker that doesn't even do his job. He gets all of his ideas, thoughts, and emotions from the news and people around him. He is completely stupid, yet he is a rich, successful man treated with respect. The idiotic things he says are hilarious. He isn't a serial killer. He merely thinks about killing those around him because of the violence he watches on his TV. Every kill is a dream. Patrick isn't some cool, two faced guy; he is a buffoon who basically isn't a human. He is practically just a mixture of everything he sees. He isn't unique or special, he's just some rich Wall Street banker. So yeah, this is a hilarious dark comedy and it is a classic.

I think this might be the worst movie ever made, no exaggeration. The movie is an endless black hole of terrible garbage. Everytime I watch this movie, I notice something new that's wrong with it. There are so many layers to its terrible garbage. With a lot of bad movies I watch, like most recently Ant-Man 3 or The Super Mario Bros. Movie, their problems are very basic and you can find all of them in one or two sittings. Ant-Man 3 has terrible cringey dialogue, a bad story, and major plot holes, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie has terrible casting, a terrible soundtrack, a boring basic story, bad comedic timing, and terrible soy boy-worthy easter eggs. But with The Cat in the Hat, literally everytime I watch it there is a new reason to hate it. Pretty much everything is wrong with this movie. It is an anti-masterpiece.

Great movie from the Coen Bros. that is a subtle adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. One of my favorite similarities is the scene that represents Odysseus outsmarting the Cyclops. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is curious about the Cyclops, gets clobbered by the Cyclops, but then he throws a spear at the Cyclops and he hides among the Cyclops' cattle. In O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Everett (Odysseus) is curious about Big Dan (The Cyclops), gets clobbered by Big Dan, throws the Confederate flag (a spear) at Big Dan, and he hides among Dan's fellow KKK members (the cattle). So yeah, great adaptation and an overall fun movie. This is one of the only PG-13 Coen Bros. movies, so if you are iffy on R-rated films, then this is a great introduction to the Coen Bros. It was for me.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2023

This review contains spoilers.
The best part about this movie was the hype surrounding it. The casting sucked. The only two good casting choices were Jack Black and Charlie Day; both of them did a pretty good job. Other than that, it sucked. Chris Pratt had an inconsistent accent and he poorly delivered many lines. Anna Taylor Joy didn't bring any kind of character to her peformance. Keegan Michael Key was annoying. Seth Rogen was Seth Rogen. The soundtrack sucked. The score was okay, but they just included random songs throughout the movie that had nothing to do with Mario. They played Take On Me for no reason. They played Thunderstruck unironically. They played Mr. Blue Sky for no reason. They played No Sleep Till Brooklyn because they were in Brooklyn (very clever). The story was incredibly basic and boring. There was no sense of urgency. Peach talks about how Bowser is arriving with an army and they need to quickly prepare, but for some reason she has time to watch some random person she's never met try to complete an obstacle course for hours. This movie doesn't have any kind of theme or message. It is saying nothing. This movie does a horrible job at introducing characters and world building. Imagine watching this movie without any knowledge of Mario; it would be some of the most confusing crap ever. A movie should be able to exist on its own. 'But Shane, this movie isn't for people who don't know about Mario, it's for the fans!' A movie should never be 'just for the fans.' A movie should be able to appeal to anyone, and if not, then that's just lazy filmmaking. The animation is good and the set pieces the characters navigate are cool (if you have knowledge of the games). Other than that, this movie is pointless and lazy. It's okay to like this movie, but if you like it just because you are attached to the Mario franchise, then I will not take your opinion seriously and you should probably not consider your own opinion critically valid.

The best MCU movie, but that isn’t saying much since most of the MCU is processed, boring mediocrity that the average Joe will mindlessly praise because it has a cool superhero in it. The most popular modern-day movies are ones that are specifically made by corporations to appeal to as many people as possible. In order to appeal to as many as possible, they make movies that are dumb, safe, and repetitive so that basically anyone from anywhere won't think it's weird/offensive. The best movies of the 2010s and '20s are ones that a lot of people don't like because they are layered, new experiences that either they don't understand (because they're stupid), or because the movies aren't in their taste. Everything Everywhere All at Once is a movie that has recently received the Oscar for Best Picture, yet the general crowd didn't like it because they were either too stupid to understand it, or because it wasn't in their taste. The most generally well-liked movies of the 2010s and '20s (such as Illumination or Marvel films) are bland and inoffensive, yet the general crowd loves them because they are simple, dumb experiences. To quote Adam Johnston, 'Superhero movies are the new Pro Wrestling. Sure, there's acting, music, lighting, and directing involved, but at the end of the day, you're not really there to watch theater, you're really just there to see your favorite mustly man in a colorful suit get mad at other mustly men in colorful suits before showing off their signature moves.' That being said, the Guardians movies are an exception. James Gunn cares about his movies, and this is the best movie he has made. Great action, perfect soundtrack, lovable characters, etc. It's a shame that this movie is associated with most of the rest of the MCU.

This is probably the last good movie the MCU will ever make. Rocket's backstory is the best part of the movie. It's very sad and it makes you consider everything the character has been through. The rest of the movie is great too. Most Marvel direction is crap, but James Gunn has always done a good job at directing the GotG movies, and this one is no exception. Every character gets a satisfying conclusion in the end, even poor Rocket. It's hilarious and it made me laugh out loud during several scenes. If I had problems with it, they would be the overly complicated story, an abundance of useless characters, tonal whiplash on several occasions, etc. If I were to rank this compared to the other GotG films, I would put it under Vol. 2 and above Vol. 1. That means it's the second best film in the MCU. That's a little sad.

This was really groundbreaking for it's time, but after the Christopher Nolan movies, this movie became worthless. This movie doesn't say anything when compared to other Batman movies. The one in the '60s is goofy, the one in the '90s was funny-bad, the ones in the 2000s were Oscar-worthy, and the new one was dark and shocking. This one is just the one with Michael Keaton. I guess this one's score stands out. It is not only the best score for any Batman movie, but it is the best score for any superhero movie ever. It is in my top ten, score wise. Aside from that, this movie is kind of eh. I liked Tim Burton's direction, Jack Nicholson's peformance, the iconic stuff, and the action. This movie is super boring for a lot of its runtime. The dialogue is poorly written and puts me to sleep. This version of Batman is incredibly boring. He doesn't have any depth, he is extremely cartoonish and predictable. His costume is poorly designed as well. They designed the costume in a way where the top of it is a giant frame, so his movements are extremely stiff. He honestly looked like Darth Vader whenever he moved. It is extremely forgettable outside of the occasional iconic scene. There are so many characters that get sidelined and the characters that do get attention are booooooring. I literally only remember Batman and the Joker. The pacing also sucks. Point is, this movie is very mid and boring. Watch this if you want to take a big fat nap or something, idk.

One of my favorite movies ever made. The visual effects are some of the best put to film. Animation and live action are blended almost perfectly. It is one of the most entertaining movies ever made. The movie is constantly moving and never wastes its screen time. The satire is effective and the tone is perfect. The story is interesting and unique. It is basically a noir film but with cartoon characters, and this concept is executed perfectly. Many movies have tried to replicate this movie's greatness but nothing can come close to the levels of quality this movie reached. There are lots of movies nowadays that try to cross over a bunch of I.P. (Chip and Dale, Space Jam 2), but those movies end up being cringe. Roger Rabbit is pretty much the only movie ever that has crossed over a bunch of I.P. without making it cringe. I applaud this.

Really dumb. The plot is cliché and the characters aren't sympathetic all that much. There is nothing really special about this movie. I guess it was one of the first fully CGI-animated movies ever, but it wasn't the first. Plus, other animation studios were starting to make CGI movies besides Pixar, so it isn't groundbreaking or anything. There are so many plot holes and deus ex machinas to the point where eventually I stopped caring about everything on screen. This movie's message is so basic and stupid and it feels like an analogy that Karl Marx would use or something. The score is pretty decent and Kevin Spacey voiced the heck out of his character, but this is an extremely pointless and boring film so I don't care if it has some good stuff.

One of Pixar's best movies. My biggest problem with a lot of modern day animated movies is that whenever they give exposition, it feels like they are shoving it in your face. With this movie, whenever they give exposition it feels natural and well-written. The characters are some of Pixar's most memorable and sympathetic. The animation is a massive glow-up from Pixar's uncanny '90s animation. This is also one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. 4. When a woman insults him, he insults her by saying that he is not everyone's cup of tea.
5. He tells a woman that she is too fat to be on a hot air balloon. She ignores him and she proceeds to fall into a pit of crocodiles and get eaten alive.

This was a cute Wallace & Gromit movie until the penguin pulled out a Glock.
This is genuinely one of the greatest pieces of animated media ever. The storytelling is fantastic. The film mostly focuses on Gromit and Feathers McGraw (the penguin), two characters that are unable to talk. So instead of relying on storytelling through words, the film uses visual storytelling, and it is gripping. The characters' emotions, thoughts, and plans are made clear without the use of dialogue, and it is gripping to watch. The animation is groundbreaking. This was made in 1993 and it is still impressive. It never feels like the animators cut corners; they pushed the boundaries of claymation and as a result, this movie is a visual treat. I laughed at all of the gags. This film's humor is subtle yet effective, and there are lots of visual gags both obvious and hidden. This is a simple but amazing film. I usually can understand if someone doesn't like something, but with this, if you don't like it then you are either ignorant or stupid. (I am dead serious about everything I said in this).

The first Wallace & Gromit film, made back in 1989. The animation is pretty good, but it doesn't hold up super well, looking clunky by today's standards. The story is kind of messy and it doesn't have a plot. The movie has a long scene with this robot and it makes me wonder why they couldn't just make the short film about the robot. The titular characters don't seem to do much besides build a rocket and have a picnic, so I think a short about the robot would have been cool. Other than those 'problems,' this is a cute, cheeky classic. Wallace and Gromit are epic characters, and every time Wallace ate cheese I felt complete.

The scene where Carl sees the falls after waiting his whole life. The scene where the house first gets off the ground. The chase scene in the gorge. The scene in the rain. The scene where Carl goes through the 'stuff I am going to do' pages. I really do not understand why some people say that most of this movie is 'kiddie.' This is one of the smartest, most mature Pixar movies, and it will go down in history as one of the most iconic and beloved animated movies ever.

I really couldn't get into this one as much as the original Rocky movies. I liked the score and I like Micheal B. Jordan and Sylvester Stalone, but the plot is predictable and I feel like I have seen this exact same movie a bunch of times before this. I wish the story was more original and didn't rely on overused tropes. At least the fights were cool.

Definitely an improvement over the original. The antagonist was really interesting and I found myself rooting for both the 'hero' and the 'villain.' I like movies and shows that blur the line between good and bad. The sorrow that Creed feels over the death of his father is more well done in this one than in the first movie. It is a lot more emotional and gives you the feels. This movie goes through tropes, but the tropes are done in a unique way. This movie isn't amazing or anything, but it is worth a watch.

For modern Hollywood, the logic for direction is that whenever your scene is intense or has action, the direction is really good, but whenever there is a scene that is not intense or doesn't have action, the direction is bad. This movie has this logic. There is a scene where a daughter goes up to Creed and asks him to have tea with her, and that scene has 20 cuts when it only needed 4 at most. That being said, the intense scenes (the boxing scenes) are fantastic and jaw dropping. The sound design is great, and all of the punches have noticeable impact. The plot and drama are extremely predictable, but that doesn't make the movie uninteresting. The movie has a good runtime and it ended at the perfect time. The script and dialogue are passable, but there were some 'dramatic' moments that felt dumb. This movie is a mixed package, but I was satisfied with it overall. The last thing I want to say is that Vlad would love this movie.

Funny at some parts but overall is boring and unfunny. It attempts to debunk the story of Jesus, but it ultimately fails because of the horrible arguments it makes. Most of the characters are one-note jokes, but they aren't funny, so they're just irritating. Overall, this movie is dumb and boring. There are some scenes that are funny, but you can just find them on YouTube, so there is no point in sitting through this movie to get to those funny scenes.

Disrespectful to Jesus. There is a weird focus on the violence. People say that the violence is meant to show how bad Jesus' crucifixion was. They say it is meant to make you want to follow Jesus after being shocked by what he went through to save us. However, the movie seems to get a kick out of the violence that Jesus experienced. The violence is stylised and it seems to want to make his crucifixion seem as painful as possible. A similar movie, Saw, also seems to get a kick out of its violence. The movie Saw is a torture-fest that has stylised violence and seems to want to make the violence seem as painful as possible. This kind of filmmaking is okay for a horror movie, but when adapting the story of Jesus you can't do this. You shouldn't allow people who get a kick out of violence to adapt the story of Jesus. It is disrespectful. Only a psychopath would get a kick out of watching Jesus get tortured. This movie does not honor Jesus; it uses his story as an excuse to have stylised violence. There is also a lot of crap that they added into the movie that serve no purpose. The anti-semitism is unbearable and laughable. I like the score, makeup, costumes, and some of the actors and actresses. Point is, this movie is just Saw but with Jesus as the victim. Go watch Ben-Hur or The Chosen; those actually honor Jesus.

Lots of problems with this one. Why don't they just ask for help to get back to headquarters? Joy and Sadness are famous around the head. They should be able to go up to people and tell them 'hey we accidentally got shot out of our home, we need to get back there or else bad things will happen!' There is that one part where the workers put the gum commercial memory through the tube and it shows up at the headquarters. Why don't they put the core memories in there and immediately solve the problem? How come Sadness affects all of the memories but the other emotions don't? This movie is messy, but it still is pretty good. Kind of dumb, but kind of genius at the same time.

A pointless movie that insists that it's a masterpiece. I don't care about any character in this movie. I don't care about the plot. I fell asleep while watching this and I had to rewind it. I thought that the lead actress did a good job, and the other actors and actresses were good. The musical scenes are presented in a boring way. This movie has long scenes talking about how great music is, yet the scenes where people play music are unpassionate. The technical aspects of the movie were pretty good. The point is if I wanted to watch a movie about a conductor who abuses their students, I would just watch Whiplash.

A fever dream of a movie directed by none other than the great Paul Thomas Anderson. The plot is all over the place and there is no consistent narrative other than 'boy tries to start business and girl tries to become famous.' I was not interested in the main characters very much, rather I was interested in the shenanigans that took place. Some of the stuff that happens in this movie is insane, yet entertaining. The direction, lighting, writing, and cinematography were probably the best parts of the movie. There are so many shots in this that scream iconic and are inside my head. The writing is quick and does not spoon-feed you what is going on, and that makes the movie even more feverish and entertaining. Overall a solid movie, but I wish the characters and story were more strong.

(Note: Before you say that I am being too nice to this movie and that I shouldn't give movie ratings this high, I gave this movie four scores above ninety because this movie deserves those scores. It is widely considered by many to be the greatest film ever made, so giving it these ratings is below what the average person would give it. So before you crap your pants about the ratings I gave this movie, and say I am being 'too nice,' just know that I am not being too nice and I am giving this movie the critical rating I think it deserves. If you want to argue with me about the ratings I gave this movie, watch the damn movie first and then flap your gums about my review.)
On the list of Best Courtroom Dramas Of All Time, this movie sits at the number two spot behind To Kill a Mockingbird. The latter has only one courtroom scene and the rest of the movie has almost nothing to do with the courtroom. 12 Angry Men is ninety minutes of interesting, well-constructed, well-shot, and well-written courtroom drama. You barely know anything about the titular twelve angry men. All you know is that they are deciding on a verdict that threatens the execution of someone. The movie relies on disputes and thought-provoking themes. Themes such as prejudice, worldviews, playing God, stubbornness, decisions without thought, social classes, and doubt. All of these themes are portrayed effortlessly. The arguments are interesting and keep you on the edge of your seat. The actors are exceptional. The cinematography, editing, and sound are impressive even by today's standards. My only problem with this movie is that there are some unnecessary story halts. Other than that, this movie is a must-watch for anyone who loves movies and especially for anybody who loves courtroom dramas. Whoever put the To Kill A Mockingbird movie above it on that list is an idiot.

A depressing, heartbreaking film about death and human existence. Expertly portrays how short life feels. There are many layers to this movie's brilliance. Nothing in the script is wasted; every line and detail means something. It isn't really a 'comfort watch,' but it is without a doubt the best film of 2008, and probably the best film of the 2000s. Charlie Kaufman is one of the greatest writers in the film industry, and he should make more movies.

I actually think that this movie could benefit from a live action remake. It's way too goofy and if it was more serious all the way through then it would be a certified banger. Sadly, Disney will probably never remake this movie because of how it portrays a villain who thinks that God wants him to murder a bunch of people. Maybe someone else can buy the rights to the movie or something.
