Get Out is a rare Blumhouse win. This is one of the smartest horror movies I've ever seen. Every single line of dialogue matters and will come back at some point. The dialogue itself is a tad boring, but thankfully the movie more often tells the story with its visuals. The cinematography perfectly captures the unease and creepiness of every scene. The set design is uncanny and captures a creepy retro vibe. The acting is fantastic, although I think the main character is very basic. I feel like you could replace the main character with anyone, and the movie would still work. I also don't like how the movie keeps cutting to the main character's friend, it feels unnecessary and kills the tone whenever it happens. Those are the only problems I have with the movie though. This movie expertly paces its mystery. It grips you and leaves you guessing at every moment. The reveals are humble and don't try to be overly dramatic, but they are still impactful. This movie's social commentary never feels preachy or in your face. It feels personal and it works perfectly well with the story. Many scenes in this movie are already iconic in American culture, even though this movie is only six years old. This movie is a modern classic and I recommend it to any horror or mystery fan.
