Mufasa: The Lion King was exactly how good you thought it was going to be
This is no shocker. Everyone knew it was going to be bad. Watching this movie was pretty much just affirming my low expectations. There are a couple of shots that look good, some decent action scenes, decent cinematography, interesting direction at times, and I thought the plot got interesting near the last 10-20 minutes. Those are my compliments, which means it is better than the 2019 remake. Other than that this movie manages to be both boring and headache indusing. They actually added emotions to the characters, but it doesn't really do much since the characters don't have any personality. Every character is butchered, it feels like a fanfict writer wrote this movie. The conflict at the end of the movie is interesting at the surface level, but once you think about it for more than five seconds it all falls apart. The conflict feels so shoe horned in to the point where it's kind of frustrating. Like, really? That's how you're gonna explain Scar's backstory? With an overdone cliche? It doesn't make sense and it contradicts some stuff in the original. The rest of the plot is just a basic adventure movie where the characters gotta get from point A to point B. It's booooooooooring. It felt like my brain was turning to mush while watching it. The visuals are good sometimes but it's mostly just the 2019 remake again. It looks bland and uninteresting. At times I got a headache because of how it looked like PS3 graphics. This movie's music is trash. Usually I love Lin Manuel Miranda's music. Hamilton, Moana, In The Heights, and Bring It On are some of my favorite soundtracks ever. Even with movies I don't like Vivo or Encanto, the music slaps. But lately he's been making such crappy music. His songs for The Little Mermaid were awful, and this one isn't much better. His songs are just so awkward and bland. There was one song that was almost good, the then the chorus ruined it. There was one song that was so bad it made me laugh out loud. Griffin had to tell me to "lock in" I was laughing so hard. The score isn't much better, it's basically just the music from the first movie but used at much worse and ill-fitting moments. The Lion King is probably my favorite score for a movie ever, but not even my love for the original score could make me enjoy the music. This movie's dialog also fails to live up to the iconic dialog from the original. The villain sucked. The voice acting was hit or miss. Also for some reason they decided to cut back to Timon and Pumbaa's live reaction every 5 minutes. It was very unnecessary and annoying. If you wanna watch a good prequel to an animated movie watch Monster's University or something.
