What mainly carries this movie is the animation and writing. This is in my top ten in terms of visuals for movies. Every frame is beautiful and interesting to look at. If this movie was live action or had cheaper animation then it would not work well. The writing is witty and clever. Like The Incredibles and Ratatouille, there are many lines in this movie that you could frame on a wall. All of the characters (especially the villain) are funny and likable. The commentary on the Cold War works very well and doesn’t feel forced. My biggest issue with this movie is the story. The pacing is all over the place and it barely feels like anything happens. Most of the movie is just filler, it’s only until the end where things actually happen. There are many plot points that feel forced and unnatural, especially at the end when the giant runs away. Some of the emotional beats feel forced as well. The score is also very over the top and annoying. So while this movie has some amazing aspects to it, it’s held back by the story.

The Iron Giant (Signature Edition) has a very small, contained, and simple story. The plot is interesting and the animation is pretty good. It’s chill and enjoyable.

The characters and animation are the best parts of this movie. The plot has a couple of issues and is often predictable, but the lesson that you can get out of it is good.

With beautiful animation, The Iron Giant's anti-war message is the best showing how we should always resolve things through peace rather than violence no matter how big or small you are. You are who you chose to be. Be like Superman.
