Finding Nemo 2003

This review contains spoilers.

I don't know a lot about the themes explored in this movie, but I love the epic adventure marlin goes through to find his son. More time exploring the relationship between those two characters would've been nice though I think. A really fun watch, too that I think I appreciate as much if not more now as when I watched it as a kid.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 2016

This review contains spoilers.

A well-articulated character-driven narrative that drew me in very early into the run-time. Feels very in-universe but also very personal and unique, even though some of the action beats seem formulaic. The morals/themes are easy to notice but are also easy to except because of how well this film is developed. Therefore it takes a minute to think through what you just saw, reasoning through the morals the characters are learning or debating...and quite a few more to satisfactorily reflect on the art you just expirienced.

Cars 3 2017

This review contains spoilers.

I think the direction they went for in this third film in the franchise suits it well. I don't mind some of the new characters (though some of the old ones definitely take a beating). The animation isn't all that unique however, one or two of the characters are painfully written, and don't come for the jokes. However, I currently appreciate Mcqueen's arc in the film, and there are are a few sequences in which Cruz is an actually fun character. Overall, nice direction, some good character momments, but a lot that could have been handled a lot better.

Spider-Man: Far From Home 2019

This review contains spoilers.

I actually like a lot about this movie. The main morals they try to portray are pretty well done, I guess, though it mostly just acknowledges issues in life, with not much else to say, or it gives a false solution. Something to note is that the main focus is on Peter's inner struggles as opposed to the physical dangers on screen. There is lots and lots of cringe caked on, and some really dumb inclusions which make me not completely recommend this movie, but there is a bit to get from the film when you look a bit closer. Not a whole lot to write home about though.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018

This review contains spoilers.

If assigned movie watching ever does become a thing assigned at schools (not that I think it should), Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse will be among those studied, alongside the classic works of literature.
Seriously though, this film is so beautifully done. You can see the passion and creativity poured into it. There's a great soundtrack and the visuals are so expressive and unique. Revolutionary as far as modern films go. There's also a story at it's heart that is wonderfully realized and relatable to many. Also, kudos for starting the current "unique animation style" trend. I do have a couple of nitpicks which I think do bring it down, and it's not perfect, as will never be the case, but I do think it is a solid film and has currently been one of my favorites.

The Croods: A New Age 2020

This review contains spoilers.

If you look past the terrible ending and the nonsense propaganda, "there's a kind of humanity in it." This film had actual potential and some parts were funny or even cool, but there's also just SO much working against it. I liked the idea of the new main characters, and the plot is alright until it gets near the ending. It almost feels as if two opposing teams tried to direct the movie at the same time. The more meaningful and based bits were seemingly thought necessary to dilute with quick humor and they also added weird feminism moments and, was that supposed to be a gay scene?

Rio 2 2014

This review contains spoilers.

Stop making sequels to movies if your only idea is to make an Avatar carbon copy. One or two funny jokes in this movie though, and I think the whole thing with Blue being good at soccer was pretty well done. The writing is terrible though, and the songs also just aren't as good. Everything that was sorta nice about the first movie was completely stamped on and destroyed in this one. Also I hate the all too prevalent scenes in these types of movies where the villain "gets what he deserves" because it's most always done in the laziest and most grotesque way possible for seemingly no reason except as if to say, "this is what should happen to people who think differently than us." Especially with the matters movies like this cover, this is so dumb and gives kids such a wrong idea about these conflicts; not to mention the other obviously unbiblical ideas that this movie tries to push on us.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2020

This review contains spoilers.

I'm so glad they adapted my favorite Sonic character Tom Wachowski into this movie. 10/10.

Good themes of family and friendship I guess, funny moments, tons of product placements, and not much relation to the sonic games... which I'm kind of okay with. The actual character of Sonic is quite charming but also annoying sometimes. The plot and themes of this movie, while not very related to the games, are a bit interesting and the dynamic between him and Tom is pretty good. There might be too many pop culture references though. Plus just so many jokes that aren't funny (and more than a little bit strange). Just be ready to sigh and hold your hand to your forehead more than once in this movie... like a lot more than once.

The Wild Robot 2024

This review contains spoilers.

The story could be interpreted/ applied to a number of different meanings and situations. I also think the writing could have been better; there's lots of solid animation here, but though it seems to have a lot to say in it's story, its execution is found wanting. The eye candy seems to overpower the food for thought.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012

This review contains spoilers.

Bilbo is funny,

Thorin is not,

the motives of the company are food for thought.

Some scenes are well done,

the villains are dumb,

and Bilbo is funny.

Overall, there are a few likeable and standout scenes, but like the rest of the trilogy, there's not enough heart to justify LOTR level violence. Some stuff is especially wierd, and again, not really with any justification, if there possibly even could be any. As far as biblical values go, there are themes of perseverance, zeal, and hope. Not a lot to go around though given the long runtime.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 2014

This review contains spoilers.

This movie brings you right into the lives of the characters and their relationships to eachother, and it also SO delivers in action. One sort of detractor is that the villains' motives are quite shaky. (Which is I guess the norm for Spidey villains). Also Electro is is kinda corny... It doesnt detract too much though from the plot and every side tangent fits into the main message. The Tasm duology is also probably the cleasnest of the three Spiderman live-action adaptations. Also, the funnniest Peter by far is in this movie in particular. Has me laughing every time I watch it (Especially with friends/family).

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002

This review contains spoilers.

W.
The Two Towers (Extended Edition) is monumental and very engaging, but a little bit bare-bones. First of all, the runtime is sizable for sure, boasting over three hours. However, most of the time something interesting and quite wonderful is happening. From hardy lines about sentiment to trouble over a bit of bad stew, to Sam's famous speech and Frodo's on-point response, this film has 'a lot to love.' The movie introduces a lot of stuff, but all welcome aditions to the narrative. The depth of the charcters in this movie and throughout the franchise is great (W Faramir). The battle for Helm's deep is fun, and the added scene of Legolas and Gimli tallying their scores makes the extended edition a must-watch for fans. This movie also has a really well done ending as a whole. I implore y'all to watch the Ext. Editions. Pretty much all of my favorite, and the most charming scenes are only included here. Character insight and coolness is cut in the theatrical release so...

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001

This review contains spoilers.

W.
The Fellowship of the Ring is not only centered around biblical-ish themes, but also has epic characters and at it's heart a most noble cause. There is emphasis on such things as providence:
"Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought." -Gandalf
and also small acts of kindness having big impacts:
"My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over [so] the pity of Bilbo [on him] may rule the fate of many." -also Gandalf
One thing that does bring the rating down is the seeping in of secular themes like following your heart and such overrated nonsense. This technically could be used in a good way, but it's so oversaturated these days. "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." (Phillipians 4:8)
It's so dense in action and goodness that It keeps you smilling from ear to ear through every heroic act and feeling compassion in your heart through every heart breaking scene (R.I.P. Boramir). This movie (and trilogy) does contain sorcery and spells and such, yet unlike Harry Potter, it does not glamorize it as something to do in the real world, and is used simply to enhance the plot. There really isn't a direct corrolation here to spiritual truths but some things do come to mind. Maybe gifts God gives us? Those which can be used for good or ill. I suppose I should also mention that I watched the extended version. None of the parts I mentioned thus far are Ext. Edition additions, however, after looking up which scenes were added, they're some of my favorites, so I would recommend starting your'e adventure with this version if you can. W Sam and Aragorn.

The Impossible 2012

This review contains spoilers.

Very emotionally intense and solemn tone. It made me cry my first time watching it (this was at least 6 years ago). My favorite parts were when young peter parker helped reunite a family, when the old lady talks to the kids, and the ending. This movie highlights how humans will come together in the midst of disaster to survive, and how what's most important to them will drive their actions at such times. There's one character in particular who's actions elevate the tone. It's eluded to that his family is most likely dead, and he figures that he has a better chance helping the main dad character find his family instead. This dude really does take the tone to new levels of realness, and the ending shot that references him is like, woah! Also all the actors crushed it with their performances. Warning, there is at least one turn-away scene (partial nudity) and the whole movie for the most part is very intense. It is about a tsunami. Interesting symbolism and character development, even when Noone is saying anything.

Christopher Robin 2018

This review contains spoilers.

🍯 The on-paper idea displayed in Christopher Robin is cool, but could've been more realized. Comedy and references to Pooh lore are in fact present. There was a lot of mid filler though, and cliche story beats, stolen straight outa' ELF. The cast seemed decently well picked to me, but just as well could've been other people, ya know? The idea shines a lot in the opening and final scenes, where the characters are chillin' in the hundred acre wood. The middle was eeeehhhhhhh. Pooh is funny and so are his friends. Overall a fun, but not particullarly astounding watch. Mmm honey dont mind if I dooooo....🍯

What Is a Woman? 2022

This review contains spoilers.

I've heard people say that there are no differences between male and female; those people are idiots. -Matt Walsh

I think this movie(/documentary) does a good job at exposing the incredibly evil venality of this movement. The stuff they push on kids, how they openly lie to them and how they cut off children's parts without the parent's consent; this evil has got to stop! This film is done in an intensely informative and also entertaining way. It is very based. This film features good editing, fun skits, and good 'one-liners' throughout. It also delves into some history of the sick minded things done to kids at the start of the modern reprisal of this movement. Again, like with Sound of freedom, it may make people uncomfortable, and there are sexual references throughout, so look at a parents guide (kids-in-mind.com or common-sense-media are ones I think are good),watch with discretion, and know your tendencies. Spiritual warfare is real. Remember, the alphabet soup is a minority, and more importantly, God is on our side. God bless y'all. Ephesians 6:10-18; also psalm 9:15-20

Sound of Freedom 2023

This review contains spoilers.

Sound of Freedom is a success in bringing awareness and morality back to the big screen. The main character displays a strong will to please God. He does, however lack depth when it comes to character flaws. Other characters fill this role fine though, and its not a glaring issue. This also on the other hand, helps contrast the good guys from the bad. I especially enjoyed the more "macho" aspects of this film, including the "S.W.A.T. team" tackling the pedophiles and doing other such moral and challenging acts, and also the dangerous final mission that the main character, Tim, endured to do God's will. The score is also phenomenal and well set to the scenes they represent.

I know there's been a lot of backlash towards this movie, saying it does a dis-service to the issue, or that it is primarily self-seeking, and... I don't fully agree with any of the ones I've heard. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they're all politically skewed or mistaken, perhaps even an evil caused by the devil to make this topic not raised to as high an awareness. This movie was also delayed in distribution for 5 years, having been already finished but guarded from release. Alternatively, its all a paradox, as this idea could be used by the creators to make billions off Christians and the like. I realize that there are real concerns for the potential mis-ideas about the topic that this film may cause. None however, are really worse than this movie not existing. That isn't to say that if you don't like this movie, you hate kids or anything like that.

Overall I think it's a good story, message, and a good watch. It does make people uncomfortable though, and there are sexual references, so look at a parents guide (kids-in-mind.com or common-sense-media are ones I think are good),watch with discretion, and know your tendencies. Also check out Luke 17:1-3; it's referenced in the film; also check out Psalm 10.

Hacksaw Ridge 2016

This review contains spoilers.

Hacksaw Ridge does the best I've seen at portraying the violence and terror of wartime, part in credit to the R rating. The action is intense and always keeps you on the edge of your seat. The main battle scene is one of the greatest I've seen. This movie isn't all action and gore though. The emotional moments hit different, being one of the few movies that really made me feel so much for the main character. Andrew Garfield's acting in this movie is outstanding as always, and I do think this is his best movie. Mel Gibson and the writing team, along with Andrew Garfield and the rest of the cast, crafted a narrative that is GRIPPING, EMOTIONAL, INTENSE, and amazingly ACCURATE.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood 2019

This review contains spoilers.

This "short Mr. Rogers story" seems to almost encapsulate everything I know about Mister Rogers' career. The movie is graceful, charming, and impactful. I like that while they probably lessened it, the creators did not shy away from his public Christianity. The more "short story approach" that was taken as opposed to a biography of his whole life is not what I expected, but it lends itself well to the show's style. It also leaves room for other future movies (perhaps to be made by other studios) as it doesn't proclaim itself as "the definitive Mr. Rogers movie." Despite this, however, it does a pretty good job (from what I know) of portraying and teaching about the person of Mr. Rogers. Like I said before though, it is not a story of his whole life, nor is it a totally cumulative deep dive into his personality. There is so much more to explore! I also might recommend watching this multiple times to get the whole feel for it. The first half I was taken aback by the new Mr. Rogers and the uniqueness of the film.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 2022

This review contains spoilers.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is one of the few modern masterpieces of our time. There are no words to describe such a film... but it would be a crime not to try. This movie blends stunning visuals with an amazing story and great characters together almost perfectly. The animation is beautiful and distinct. The art style looks very nice and colorful. I also liked it when it dropped frames for effect. The character designs for the most part all really cool and unique. The music in this movie was also really good, with the opening musical number along with recurring character themes and also the lives montage music coming back when he met his past selves was funny. The story is very touching, not being afraid to get pretty deep. I think the Wolf character was brilliant, and Puss's journey throughout the film was so well thought-out and heartwarming. I also like how each character has their own unique story to tell. The movie is also very funny at times. It also progresses very well, each character's own journey coming together in the final act. There were a few minor annoyances in the film though, a few scenes being kind of cringe. I didn't like the thing with the dog's eyes getting huge and also I think the scenes with cursing could've gotten the point across just as well without actually implying bad words. The Jack Horner fight at the end was also a bit lame and rushed-feeling. While there were a few things I personally would've done differently, this movie is honestly one of the best and most captivating films I've seen. I was right... words were not enough.

Nacho Libre 2006

This review contains spoilers.

Nacho Libre is an acquired taste, but that's a taste I doubt I'll ever aquire. This movie tries to be bad-funny like the style of Napoleon Dynamite, but I guess that target is really hard to hit right; this movie is kind of just bad. Most of the budget was used to hire Jack Black, who is a little bit funny sometimes, but is kind of boring after a while, though he does have a few funny interactions with other characters. Some scenes are also so obviously greenscreened for seemingly no reason. I first saw this movie with the volume off in the background of a Cinco de Mayo party, and that's how I think it's best experienced.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990

This review contains spoilers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is probably the closest adaptation of both the comics and the shows. It incorporates as much as possible of the Turtles' likeness and the world around them as it can. This movie is also very experimental. It tries lots of new things for the first time, being the first live-action adaptation. This movie is very much a product of its time, a lot of pop culture references of that time being present and other stuff people thought was cool then. I liked when they were actually sneaky like ninja and how their personalities were distinct. A lot of this movie is just much of the same though, and some stuff just doesn't seem necessary to have in there. The costumes and CGI were decent and hold up pretty well. This is a movie that I have little to no nostalgia for, and its kind of just okay.

Turtles Forever 2009

This review contains spoilers.

Turtles Forever was a TV special celebrating 25 years of the Turtles, and it definitely feels like one. The dimension-hopping stuff is something that's been done to death now, and little else makes this movie stand out. The story and plot were very dumbed down in order to be comprehensible for little kids and is just so predictable. Some moments were fun and there were a lot of references to past Turtle media, but overall it's very mid by movie standards.

Top Gun: Maverick 2022

This review contains spoilers.

While Top Gun: Maverick is a nostalgia trip for sure, it's unique enough to be considered its own film. Many things in this movie are similar to the original, but things like the plot and characters make it just different enough. The plot is gripping and intense, keeping you locked in at all times. The characters, new and old, are good and have fun interactions. To be fair though, there were a lot of curse words and unanswered questions. You also have to be in the mood for or generally enjoy this type of stuff, or at least have seen the first one... if that makes sense. This movie definitely had a threshold to stay within, being in the shadow of the first movie, but it did everything it could to be a terrific film.

Jesus Revolution 2023

This review contains spoilers.

In my score review for Jesus Revolution I’m going to be honest, it’s far from a perfect movie, but I will say that this movie hits different where it counts to make this still a very enjoyable and motivating film. The characters in this movie (being real people) are well portrayed and fleshed out. That being said, Jesus, while being in the title and being a lot of the focus of the movie, isn’t much of a main character here as he is in other similar films. The struggles of the main characters are very engaging however, centering on relevant and interesting dilemmas and daily struggles in the Christian faith. The main character’s journey throughout the movie is also captivating and as I said, engaging. This helps the movie become more immersive and satisfying by the conclusion (it tying everything together very well in the end). It’s always nice when a Christian movie like this fires you up with encouragement. This movie is two hours long and honestly could’ve been longer.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 2018

This review contains spoilers.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a lot to take in. What starts as a same-y dinosaur movie by the end is an emotional rollercoaster. Close to the start of the movie is where we are introduced to two of the new main characters; they have their moments but are overall just irritating. The returning characters of Owen and Claire are again great in this movie, together and separated. Owen’s relationship with Blue is also a standout in this movie, going deeper and exploring their backstory and trust some more. Masie Lockwood also brings to the table that ever-present kid's eye view we’ve seen from previous films, but like the others, she is unique enough to be relatable and has her own story to tell. Most of the characters were relateable enough, which is good in a film like this because I so desperately didn’t want to see them die. Some parts in the first act are a little bit unnecessarily goofy or dorky at times. Sprinkled even through the beginning though is that splash of good humor and coolness from Owen. The scene with the Brachiosaurus being consumed by fire demonstrates not only the great cinematography but also sets up the emotional and dramatic tone for the rest of the film. The score also does wonders for the mood. The main characters also share some great heartwarming moments in the latter half. The other main stand-out of the film is the Indoraptor, though it doesn’t appear for too long. The Indoraptor has, I think, the most graphic and scary moments since the first film. The ending is also very bold, leaving you off with a very distinct and dramatic but thoughtful tone.

Jurassic World 2015

This review contains spoilers.

Jurassic World directed by Colin Trevorrow is a breath of fresh air for Jurassic fans. This movie captures both the cool and the scary of the dinosaurs. The bond between the raptors and Owen is also one of the most unique and cool parts of this movie. This all culminates into the amazing climax with the Indominous, Blue, and of course the T-Rex. The main characters in the movie are mostly relatable and unique. Owen Grady brings a new perspective and thrill to the movie with his bond to the raptors and other cool things he does, and his interactions with the other characters. Gray and Zach are also a great kid's eye view perspective much like in the first film. Their relationship with each other growing throughout the movie is very heartwarming. Most of the characters have somewhat of an arc throughout the movie, including Claire, who learns to see the dinosaurs less as numbers and assets, and more as the living and breathing animals they really are. The characters are great and add a more emotional and deeper side to the film. Both 'villains' in the movie are also great, Hoskins being a good counter to the main characters, wanting to test the dinosaurs for personal gain (playing God), which the whole franchise warns against. The Indominous Rex was also set up so greatly and continues to be a scary and formidable threat throughout the movie, destroying everything in its way, killing for sport, and even getting the raptors on its side. The story, though very similar to previous installments, has its own unique touches, but again is very similar, the characters and dinosaurs doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Aside from all this, the effects and animatronics used to bring the dinosaurs to life, along with the sets and cinematography spared no expense in getting it to look as real as possible and really helps the movie be more immersive. Being a dinosaur and Jurassic Park fan, though it’s not as great as the first, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would recommend.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023

This review contains spoilers.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse doesn’t feel like a movie. It gets cut short in the middle of the plot, and much of what’s earlier is just filler and setup. This movie isn’t really bad; it just kind of left me confused and little bit uncomfortable due to all the twists and turns it takes (especially at the end) and multiple woke references. This movie also takes new bold risks with its animation styles, which works some but not all of the time. Also, almost all of the live-action cameos are so jarring! Some cameos and characters are only in here for fan service, and they overstay their welcome sometimes, most references and jokes falling really flat. That’s not to say the movie isn’t funny at all though. There were a few moments that cracked me up but those were few and far between. I did like the old characters and a few of the new new ones, but many key characters, like Spider-Man 2099 are very two-dimensional and don’t have any interesting character arcs due to this being only half of a movie. The action in this movie is pretty good with a few fun fight scenes here and there. I don't know, maybe I'll enjoy it more the second time. I overall didn’t hate the movie (there were some genuinely enjoyable parts), but most of it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has the unique ability to give me chills and keep me smiling this big throughout the whole movie every time I watch it. Yes, it’s not perfect, but the amount of love and care poured into this movie really shows. Being a Mario fan, pointing out so many references sprinkled throughout is so fun. Elements are taken from almost all if not every Mario game. Another highlight of the movie is the relationships between the main characters. They’re genuine and sweet. For these reasons and more, I regard this movie as the best video game movie of all time.

Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope 1977

This review contains spoilers.

Star Wars: A New Hope is the film that sparked the imagination of both young and old and inspired generations to come. This film is pure Star Wars at its finest. This movie encapsulates everything a true Star Wars fan loves. This is where it all started. The Force, the Empire, the Rebellion, all of it. The main characters are also all unique and fun in their own way. They feel real and bounce off of each other well. The wise mentor figure of Obi-Wan also works really well to teach not only Luke, but also the audience about the Force in a smooth and fun way. Luke’s character development in this movie and throughout the trilogy is also worth noting. At the start, he craves adventure and purpose. Then he must learn to hone in his abilities and master them. In addition, the props and effects still hold up to this day. The team working on the film used a lot of clever tricks and workarounds in order to make the most immersive experience possible. The story, characters, and effects all help make this one of the most remarkable and beloved films of all time.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story 2016

This review contains spoilers.

Unlike the other branching-off story film, Rouge One stays very close to the main conflict in the universe: the Death Star nearing completion. I like how this movie ties into the other movies while also not bothering those movies or retconning anything. I also really like the unique and diverse cast of characters, although at times their stereotypes are a bit forced. The main character Jyn Erso has a really convincing and heartwarming relationship with her father and other characters too, but she is a victim of forced character stereotypes. The supporting cast also does a good job of having realistic and sometimes funny interactions with each other. Humor here isn’t as laugh-out-loud funny but has a just as respectable dry humor. The tone of the movie is also more gritty and down to earth... or wherever. A band of unlikely heroes, Rebels, fight for their one chance to steal the plans, revealing a weakness in the most powerful superweapon imaginable. A problem this movie faces is that we’re not seeing much new stuff. A good portion of the movie is the same ship sneaking around that we’ve seen countless times. The villain of the movie, Director Krennic, was also a brilliant inclusion. He gives a look into the power struggle within the Empire itself. He has strengths, flaws, and is also scary at times. He has the power to blow up a planet for goodness sake! The amazing culmination at the end of the film is cinema. The characters we’ve grown to love through watching the movie face sure death. They fight with all they have for the last time. Krennic watches as his own weapon is used by the Empire to destroy the Rebels, along with himself, just to cover up a mess they made. The following scene with Darth Vader is so horrifying and intense, truly displaying the power and evil of the Empire, as he tears through Rebel forces. As the movie closes we’re reminded of what lies ahead in this vast universe: hope.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones 2002

This review contains spoilers.

This movie is like sand; it's course, it’s rough, it’s irritating… and it gets everywhere. One of the big selling points of the prequels is seeing Jedi in their prime. A time when Jedi were highly skilled warriors. The final act portrays this beautifully. The dynamic between Obi-Wan and Anakin is something really special. Though they spend a good portion of this movie separated, when they are together they bounce off of each other really well. The character of Anakin in this movie takes a big leap from that of The Phantom Menace. He goes from being an excited little boy to moody teen without any warning. The movie is nonstop action from beginning to end, but it does get a bit repetitive. A lot of this movie is filler and setup for future films and shows, but it’s still a fun time. The show’s better though.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith 2005

Unlike the other two prequels, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is entertaining the whole way through. As prequels go, 'this is where the fun begins.' As soon as the movie starts, you are thrust into an epic space battle into a fight for control of a starship into two lightsaber duels back to back! And that’s just the beginning! This also isn’t at the cost of story. The gripping narrative of Anakin’s decent to the Dark Side is really emotional and well executed. The final scenes are so captivating, especially for a Star Wars fan like myself; the brotherhood built up between Obi-Wan and Anakin coming to ruin, just for Palpatine to tell Anakin (now Darth Vader) that all he did was for nothing. Not tone-wise, but critically, this movie was 'another happy landing.'

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 1999

This review contains spoilers.

The long-awaited prequel to Star Wars, The Phantom Menace delivers when it comes to effects, cool designs, and over-the-top action, but the characters are a bit two-dimensional and it lacks the story and wholesomeness that make the originals so special.
