Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a lot to take in. What starts as a same-y dinosaur movie by the end is an emotional rollercoaster. Close to the start of the movie is where we are introduced to two of the new main characters; they have their moments but are overall just irritating. The returning characters of Owen and Claire are again great in this movie, together and separated. Owen’s relationship with Blue is also a standout in this movie, going deeper and exploring their backstory and trust some more. Masie Lockwood also brings to the table that ever-present kid's eye view we’ve seen from previous films, but like the others, she is unique enough to be relatable and has her own story to tell. Most of the characters were relateable enough, which is good in a film like this because I so desperately didn’t want to see them die. Some parts in the first act are a little bit unnecessarily goofy or dorky at times. Sprinkled even through the beginning though is that splash of good humor and coolness from Owen. The scene with the Brachiosaurus being consumed by fire demonstrates not only the great cinematography but also sets up the emotional and dramatic tone for the rest of the film. The score also does wonders for the mood. The main characters also share some great heartwarming moments in the latter half. The other main stand-out of the film is the Indoraptor, though it doesn’t appear for too long. The Indoraptor has, I think, the most graphic and scary moments since the first film. The ending is also very bold, leaving you off with a very distinct and dramatic but thoughtful tone.
