I listened to this album again because the first time I listened to it my mind was plagued by memories of the movie. The movie is very bad and cheesy, and listening to the soundtrack reminded me of it. So I listened to it again and tried to ignore the movie and only focus on the music, and it was better than I gave it credit for. I’m honestly not a big fan of cool funk/soul music, I’ve always found it to be boring and at times cheesy. I can appreciate artists like Kool & The Gang because they lean more into pop/disco, but with Curtis Mayfield I’ve always found him boring. This is one of the most critically acclaimed soundtracks ever and one of the most beloved soul albums, yet it still didn’t win me over completely. I really like the song Freddy’s Dead and overall the album has great production, but I’m just not a fan of the genre.

Probably the funkiest album I've ever heard. Zero bad songs. Technically a soundtrack but works perfectly on its own.
