A Grand Day Out

This short film is a wonder of simplicity. It is refreshing to see how such a basic but funny storyline can work out to be enjoyable. We'll just ignore how Wallace is breathing on the moon without a helmet.

The first Wallace & Gromit film, made back in 1989. The animation is pretty good, but it doesn't hold up super well, looking clunky by today's standards. The story is kind of messy and it doesn't have a plot. The movie has a long scene with this robot and it makes me wonder why they couldn't just make the short film about the robot. The titular characters don't seem to do much besides build a rocket and have a picnic, so I think a short about the robot would have been cool. Other than those 'problems,' this is a cute, cheeky classic. Wallace and Gromit are epic characters, and every time Wallace ate cheese I felt complete.
