Ready Player One follows in the footsteps of film masterpieces such as Pixels (2015) and The Emoji Movie (2017). It is an extravaganza of subtle, obscure references waiting to be found by only the hardcore culturists. If you haven't even watched the obscure indie movie, The Shining, consider this one too cultured for you.

In all seriousness, this movie is just two hours of sweaty gamer fantasy. No matter how I predicted the plot would go, it would always take a stupider turn. It only has value as a fun-bad party movie.

This is a fun movie with some cool world building. That doesn't make up for it's obsurd runtime, bland characters, annoying references, horrible CGI, stereotypical story, cringey dialog, etc. I am betting money that Steven Spielburg didn't actually direct this and he just got an intern to do it.
