Not all that scary, but definitely unsettling. There is rarely a moment where you know what's going on. The plot is as minimalist as the rooms, but it's enough to show off what the movie has to offer. I love how the room designs lie right in that uncanny valley of just vaguely familiar. I felt the actors did a good job making it feel like you, the viewer, is exploring the Backrooms yourself.
(Note: This is my first time watching anything Backrooms-related. There may be some novelty bias)

A24's Backrooms movies, directed by the maker of the YouTube series, Kane Parsons, Backrooms is probably the safest "horror/thriller" movie ever. It has a predicable story despite its concept and has pretty boring characters. My biggest criticism is probably the lead switch halfway through the movie. While Chitwell Ejiofor's character Clark isn't the best, the therapist is a wholly worse person to switch too, and we never got a completion of Clarks story. Plus the lack of threats throughout the movie was frustrating or lack of true exploration made the movie a tad boring because, if I'm being honest, the backrooms themself seemed like a very boring place. At least thats what the movie made it seem like. However I did like the segment where they explore with that old camera, it was very reminiscent of the old creepy pasta backroom videos. Ultimately, very safe and very forgettable, and the ending just made it seem like the whole movie was just a very long intro for a potential sequel, if they ever make one
