Anxiety is criminally unexplored territory in mainstream media, and I'm always happy to see it given some love. I reject the notion that embracing the topic is 'cringe'.
That said, AJR's music is a slap in the face. Every single song on this album is about social anxiety, yet it always comes off as extremely whiny and childish. The creators are middle-aged men who clearly haven't figured it out, but they think they can act as a voice for lonely people. They romanticize fear instead of treating it. It's harmful. If you want help, get therapy.
Criticizing the musicality of this album is low-hanging fruit. It's shopping mall wigga music, and no one is debating this.
