The start of the Monsterverse and a reboot of the Godzilla franchise, 2014 Godzilla definitely holds up, but still has a lot of cliches and just problems in the movie. First off for some good stuff 2014 Godzilla has some great special effects. Yeah, most of the CGI action happens at night so it's easier for them to do but it's still good. Along with the story, 2014 Godzilla surprisingly has some good emotional moments to it. I didn't really expect Elizabeth Olsen's character to catch me off guard like that and same with Bryan Cranston over the death of his wife. But still when it comes to the story it's interesting but a little dysfunctional. The two storylines of Aaron Taylor Johnson's character trying to get to his family and the military trying to stop Godzilla and those other monsters don't really mesh that well. It relies on Aaron Johnson having to be really unlucky being in the same place as Godzilla or him having to join the military. Also just the whole main story goes from what, who and why these monsters are and how can we stop them, to we have to disarm a nuke while Godzilla fights in the background. Yeah really for the most part the movie is not that focused on Godzilla or in general. But overall I will say I was invested enough in the characters enough and in the Godzilla fight scenes we got to see to make it fun for me.

Ok so this movie was the first movie with Monsterverse Godzilla and it wasn’t bad. However, in a movie made about Godzilla, he had very little screentime and only appeared for under 15 minutes. The dark setting really shows how big Godzilla is in some scenes and I believe this is his best roar throughout the movies
