When I first finished The Great Gatsby I wanted to give it a 90. I thought this movie had an amazing story on the surface along with great undertones of how the rich behave, etc. But the more I thought about it afterwards the more I realized that The Great Gatsby isn't actually that deep. Now the story was great, and I liked watching the drama unfold between Gatsby and his friends, but there wasn't anything else the more I thought about it. Most of my questions were mainly about the visuals, like why the poor area looked like a wasteland and what the point of adding those creepy eyes were for. Also despite the movie wanting you to think Gatsby was the most purest out of them, he actually wasn't. He relied on mob money to get himself rich and even though Daisy was in a bad marriage he actively tried to pull her out of it even though she didn't want to in the end. Ultimately The Great Gatsby may have great visuals and a great surface story it tries masking itself to be a deep story along with commentary on rich people that just falls flat.
