Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse Full Review

The sequel to Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the continuation of Miles Morales (and now Gwen Stacy) journey, is well mixed for me. Yeah, you might think I have nothing but praise considering my number but to be honest I feel like I'm not being as harsh enough with it. It's very ambitious, having a larger than last movie, more characters and villains, along with introducing a set of rules that all Spider people have to follow by. The animation is well stunning of course but I do have a criticism of it though it's just a personal preference really and that's that they change colors or like a different backdrop for like scenes and I just didn't get it. For some more praises, Miles is once again great, and I really enjoyed Miguel O'Hara and Spot. Part ones though are really hard to rank though. They leave a lot of ends loose and for this Across the Spider-Verse I didn't like how they went full speed at the end instead of slowing down like Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 did. Also being a part 1 a lot of it was set up for the sequel meaning some characters were sacrificed in the process mainly Spot. I really liked Spot. He had a funny and charismatic personality. However, though they didn't do a good job of explaining why he hates Miles and why he wants to be his nemesis. They should have explored it more of him getting his powers from the collider and everything getting taken away from him instead of it just seeming like he is a bad guy to be the bad guy. In all honesty if Miguel was the main villain of the movie instead of Spot, I think that would have been way better. Some other things that I would have to criticize is probably that it's just not the same as the first one. Like I said before it falls into the setup category but it also falls into not as good as the OG category. They didn't have as much fun characters as the first one like Spider Ham. And to be honest I don't like the focus on Gwen Stacy. I think she was much better as a side character Also the ending is not good. In my opinion you shouldn't really introduce new stuff towards the end and should just find a place to wrap up. I don't know, maybe I just had high expectations for it since I gave the first one a 100. Overall, I like all the concepts they introduce but it's just not the same as the OG.

Edit: After re thinking about my score I was thinking why should I lower it after all the stuff I said. And the reason why I found out is that well sure its a pt 1 but it still has a really good story about being isolated and how hard it is to keep being Spiderman a secret. Throughout all the setup and other Spiderman movies it still finds a way to be original and stand out. Also Metro Boomin provided a great soundtrack.
